
'Wolves Let Late Lead Slip Away in 12-7 Loss

The SeaWolves allowed a late lead to slip away on Wednesday night at Jerry Uht Park, falling to the Trenton Thunder by a score of 12-7.
Erie struck first in the bottom of the first when Andy Dirks took Trenton starter D.J. Mitchell deep to center for his 10th home run an a 1-0 lead.
Trenton tied the game against Erie starter Ramon Garcia in the top of the second on a one-out, solo home run by Jose Gil.
Trenton would then take the lead in the top of the third. With one out, Luis Nunez singed and was homered home by Daniel Brewer for a 3-1 lead. The Thunder would hit three consecutive home runs as Austin Krum and Austin Romine followed with solo shots to make it 5-1.
The âWolves battled right back in the bottom of the third. With one out, Cale Iorg was hit by a pitch and Dirks singled putting runners on the corners for Rawley Bishop. With Bishop hitting, Erie executed a double steal scoring Iorg making it a 5-2 game. Bishop walked to put two on for Michael Bertram. Bertram sent a soft ground ball that was booted by Marcos Vechionacci at first allowing Dirks to score from second to make it 5-3. Audy Ciriaco then slammed his seventh home run, a three-run shot over the wall in straight away center, putting the âWolves back ahead by a run at 6-5.
In the fifth with one out, Bishop slammed a solo home run to left for his first Double-A hit and a 7-5 lead.
The lead would hold until the eighth. Nunez and Brewer began the inning with back-to-back singles. Krum then laid down a bunt and the throw to third was not in time allowing Trenton to load the bases. Romine drew a walk to make it a 7-6 game scoring Nunez. Brandon Laird then put Trenton back on top with a two-run double. Gil was then hit by a pitch reloading the bases for Vechionacci who cleared the bases with a double to make it 11-7. Vechionacci would score on a throwing error for a 12-7 lead.
Garcia took a no-decision going six innings, allowing five runs on six hits with no walks and a season-high six strikeouts.
