June 23, 2010 - Eastern League (EL1)
Chesapeake Baysox News Release
BOWIE, Md. - The Bowie Baysox announce today Amanda Bynes Retirement Party to honor the recently retired actress and to wish her well in her future endeavors. The event takes place as the Baysox play the Erie SeaWolves Tuesday, June 29, at 7:05 p.m. and includes a cake, retirement card, homemade tribute t-shirts, a look-alike contest, video clips and on-field promotions based on her movies.
Bynes, 24, shocked the world when she announced her retirement from acting via Twitter on Saturday, June 19. The young star had excelled on TV in Nickelodeon's "All That" and her own sketch comedy show, "The Amanda Show." She was also featured in family-friendly movies "Big Fat Liar," "She's The Man," "What a Girl Wants" and "Hairspray."
Baysox Director of Promotions Lauren Phillips was shocked by the announcement. "I can not believe she's retiring at 24," Phillips said. "She had such a long and incredible career in front of her. I've been a huge fan for years, there will be no replacing Amanda Bynes in pop culture."
To honor her career, the Baysox have a retirement cake and a card for fans to sign. Baysox interns will make their own Amanda Bynes t-shirts and the fan who looks the most like Bynes in a look-alike contest wins a fabulous Baysox prize pack. Throughout the game, the team will show clips from her career on the video board, and on-field promotions will feature themes from her movies. Scheduled on-field promotions include Daphne's Etiquette Test, Kaylee's Big Fat Liar Trivia, Viola's She's The Man Relay Race and Penny's Dance Off.
The Baysox have invited Bynes to attend the party, and have not received a response.
