Sudbury Wolves News Release
The Sudbury Wolves played a rare Wednesday night game at the Sudbury Arena when the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds came to town. The Wolves gave the Greyhounds, the sixth ranked team in the country, almost all they could handle as the Wolves dropped a tough one by a final score of 6-5.
The Wolves were hungry in the first period generating multiple scoring chances. Despite outshooting the Greyhounds 12-9, GABE GUERTLER struck first getting the Greyhounds on the board. The Wolves played a discipline period managing to stay out of the penalty box. With three minutes left in the frame, rookie MICHAEL PEZZETTA's shot trickled past BRANDON HALVERSON to tie the game 1-1.
The Greyhounds held nothing back in period number two with JEAN DUPUY scoring seconds into the frame. An onslaught of goals from both teams ensued with the Greyhounds adding three goals from JUSTIN BAILEY and two from GABE GUERTLER. From the Wolves IVAN KASHTANOV and DANNY DESROCHERS found the back of the net to put the Wolves within two. After two periods the Greyhounds led 5-3.
The Wolves battled hard through the third period to try to tie up the game but came up short. JUSTIN BAILEY's second goal of the night extended the Greyhounds lead 6-3. The Sudbury Wolves responded with a quick goal from JONATHAN DUCHESNE. In the final minutes of the frame DANNY DESROCHERS scored his second of the game to put the Wolves within one.
