Sudbury Wolves News Release

The Sudbury Wolves were at home Tuesday evening to kick off their second half of the season as they hosted the Niagara IceDogs at the Sudbury Arena. The IceDogs took an early lead 1-0 in the first period over the Wolves and never looked back, defeating the Wolves 3-1.

In the opening frame, the IceDogs jumped out to a 1-0 lead on a goal by Jordan Maletta just over 6 minutes into the match-up. Johnny Corneil picked up the assist on the opening goal late in the first period.

During the second period, RYAN VALENTINI scored a beautiful goal as he put a hard wrist shot past the IceDogs goaltender, however it was waived off by the referees who reviewed the play to discover it was off-side. The Wolves would go on to tie the game up at one, when MICHAEL PEZZETTA picked up the rebound and put it past Niagara's goaltender Stephen Dhillon. The IceDogs then regained their one goal lead late in the second when Johnny Coneil picked up his own rebound and put it past Wolves' goaltender Troy Timpano.

Late in the third period, the IceDogs added to their lead when Corneil scored his second goal of the game to give the IceDogs a 3-1 lead. The Wolves tried to tie up the game as they pulled Timpano for an extra man late in the game, however it was not enough as the Wolves fell 3-1 to the visitors.

Final shots on goal were 39 to 37 in favour of the Niagara IceDogs. Ryan Valentini was named the second star of the game.

The Wolves will now head on the road over the New Year's weekend. The team will travel to Barrie on December 31st to take on the Colts at 7:30pm, and then travel to Oshawa on January 1st, to battle the Generals at 2:05pm. Wolves' fans can follow all of the action on the road by tuning into the live play-by-play with Stew Kernan on 95.5 KFM.
