Erie SeaWolves News Release

The SeaWolves fell in the rubber game of a three-game series at Hadlock Field, 3-1, at the hands of the Portland Sea Dogs on Thursday afternoon.

The Sea Dogs struck first in the bottom of the second against Erie starter Luke French. John Otness and Mickey Hall both singled with two outs and Iggy Suarez walked to load the bases. French then issued a bases loaded walk to Bubba Bell to put the Sea Dogs ahead 1-0. Tony Granadillo singled home a pair to put Portland up 3-0. The three runs would prove to be enough for Portland in the game.

The SeaWolves got on the board in the top of the seventh against reliever Chad Rhoades for their only run of the game. Will Rhymes singled with one out and stole his second base of the afternoon to get into scoring position. With two outs, Kody Kirkland lined a single to left-center, scoring Rhymes, making it a 3-1 game in favor of Portland.

Erie had an opportunity in the ninth inning against Daniel Bard (Save-2) as they got the first two batters aboard, Dusty Ryan and Rhymes, on back-to-back walks. Bard struck out Justin Justice and induced a game-ending 6-4-3 double play ball off the bat of Kirkland to end the game.

French (3-6) worked five-plus innings for the ‘Wolves allowing three runs on six hits with five walks and a strikeout. He took his second consecutive loss.

Matt Goodson (3-3) picked up the win for Portland going five shutout innings, allowing just two hits.

Three Portland pitchers (Goodson, Rhoades and Bard) limited the ‘Wolves to just five hits in the game, four singles and one double.

The ‘Wolves stranded five runners in scoring position in the game.
