Altoona Curve News Release
ALTOONA- The Altoona Curve's 2008 "Pittsburgh Gridiron Greats Series" will continue Thursday evening at Blair County Ballpark as Steelers' kicker Jeff Reed will make an appearance throughout the 7:05 p.m. game against the New Britain Rock Cats (AA/Minnesota Twins). Reed's appearance is presented by The Hite Company.
Reed will "kick off" the game by tossing out a ceremonial first pitch and will also make a guest appearance on the Curve GameDay Show before meeting and greeting fans and signing free autographs throughout the game.
Reed joins Jerome Bettis, Rocky Bleier and Louis Lipps as current or former Steelers stars who have visited or are scheduled to visit Blair County Ballpark during the 2008 season. Bettis attended the Curve's Home Opener on April 3rd, while Bleier was in attendance to meet and greet fans and sign autographs throughout Curve's May 24th home game. Lipps, who was a star wide receiver for the Black and Gold in the mid-to-late 1980s, will visit the ballpark on Saturday, July 5th for the 7:05 p.m. game with the Harrisburg Senators (AA/Washington Nationals).
Reed first took over as the Steelers' placekicker midway through the 2002 season and has established himself as one of the National Football League's most accurate legs. The 29-year old from the University of North Carolina enters the 2008 season having converted on nearly 82 percent of his career field goal attempts and all but two of his career extra-point attempts. In 2007, Reed placed second among NFL kickers by converting on 92 percent of his field goal opportunities (23-of-25) and also was a perfect 44-for-44 on PAT's. He has been part of four Steeler teams which reached the AFC playoffs, including the 2005 team, which earned Pittsburgh's first Super Bowl title since 1979.
Great seats remain for Thursday's game and all remaining 2008 Altoona Curve home games and can be purchased by visiting the Blair County Ballpark Ticket Office, by calling (877) 99-CURVE, or by clicking one of the "BUY TICKETS" links on the AltoonaCurve.com homepage.
