The Sudbury Wolves defeated the Niagara IceDogs by a count of 7-2 which ended the club's losing skid and gave the Wolves their first road win of the young season. The victory was the club's second win of the season and the first since the Wolves defeated Niagara 3-1 on opening night.
Nathan Pancel had a break-out game as the Ottawa native scored 3 goals and added an assist for a 4-point night. Nick Baptiste was outstanding offensively and recorded a goal and two assists for a three point game.
Pancel was +5 on the night while Baptiste was +4. Matt Schmalz scored his 8th and 9th goals of the season while Jeff Corbett recorded two more assists and enjoyed a +5 game as well. Pavel Jenys scored his fourth goal of the season and leads the Wolves in points with 12 points in 15 games.
The Wolves took a 1-0 lead after one and a 2-1 lead after two periods of play. Shots on goal favoured the Wolves after two periods by a count of 26-20. The IceDogs launched an offensive attack in the third period firing 15 shots at Wolves' goaltender Sam Tanguay. Tanguay and the Wolves killed-off a 5-on-3 disadvantage for 1.5 minutes in the third period. Tanguay look sharp and steady throughout the game and back-stopped the Wolves to victory and recorded his first career OHL win in the process.
Final shots on goal finished 38-37 for the Wolves. The Wolves were 3 for 3 on the penalty kill while the Wolves were 0 for 1 on the power play.
Nathan Pancel was named the game's 1st star, Nick Baptiste was star #2 while Matt Schmalz was star #3.
The Wolves will now complete their 3-in-3 weekend with a visit to London to take-on the Knights on Sunday afternoon at 2 pm.
