
'Wolves Drop Series Finale in Altoona 5-4

The SeaWolves dropped the rubber game of the Altoona series on Thursday night at Blair County Ballpark 5-4.
The SeaWolves (28-30) broke a scoreless tie in the top of the fourth inning against Altoona (30-29) starter Mike Colla. Justin Henry led off and walked. With one out, Henry stole second and moved to third on an error. Francisco Martinez extended his hitting streak to a season-best eight straight games with a two-run home run, his team-leading seventh for a 2-0 lead.
Altoona struck right back in the bottom of the fourth against Erie starter Jacob Turner. Quincy Latimore led off and connected on his sixth home run of the season. The solo blast made it a 2-1 game. With one out, Jeremy Farrell singled and Tony Sanchez was hit by a pitch putting two on for Brad Chalk. Chalk singled home Farrell putting runners on the corners for Greg Picart. A failed squeeze bunt from Picard resulted in a double steal as Sanchez stole home giving Altoona a 3-2 lead. With two outs, Brock Holt doubled home Chalk for a 4-2 Curve edge.
Erie closed the gap to a run in the top of the sixth when Brandon Douglas led off and homered to left making it 4-3. It was the second home run of the year for Douglas, his first since April 17 at Bowie. Douglas had not hit a home run in the previous two seasons prior to 2011.
Erie tied the game against reliever Aaron Thompson in the top of the eighth. Jamie Johnson led off and reach on a bunt single for his first hit of the series. Douglas sacrificed Johnson to second and as Henry walked, a wild pitch moved Johnson to third. Adam Calderone hit into a fielder's choice, scoring Johnson, tying the game at 4-4.
Altoona promptly regained the lead in the bottom of the eighth against reliever Ramon Garcia as Farrell led off and blasted a solo home run for a 5-4 Curve lead.
Turner took his fifth consecutive and ninth no-decision of the season. He allowed four runs on seven hits with two walks and four strikeouts in six innings of work. The four runs allowed equaled the most in a game this season for Turner which he last allowed on April 28 in a loss to Reading.
Garcia (1-2) took the loss allowing a run on three hits in two innings of work.
The SeaWolves have now lost three of their last four games and will continue the current road trip on Friday night at New Britain Stadium against the New Britain Rock Cats.6:35 First Pitch.
