New Britain Rock Cats News Release

New Britain, CT - The Rock Cats collected 12 Hits and 14 Runs over the first 4 innings of their game this morning against visiting Akron, and coasted the rest of the way to a 14-3 victory. The offensive explosion supported the efficient mound offerings of RHP Liam Hendriks, who tossed 6 full innings, scattering 7 Hits while fanning 3. The 22-year-old Australian picked up his 6th Win of the year - he is now New Britain's top winner - while reducing his ERA to 2.63.

Despite the final outcome, it was Akron who opened the scoring when Beau Mills' RBI Double was one of three safeties the Aeros recorded against Hendriks in the1st inning. The Rock Cats responded in their half of the opening frame with 4 Hits and 3 Runs against Akron starter and loser, Joseph Gardner (3-5). Evan Bigley, Yangervis Solarte and Jair Fernandez picked up the early RBI for the home team.

The Rock Cats batted around in the 3rd inning when they scored 5 times to stretch their advantage to 8-1. The only negative note of the inning came when New Britain's SS, Brian Dozier, was stuck in the face by a pitch. The incident momentarily silenced the Sellout gathering of 7,162; they rose and cheered loudly when the 24-year-old stood and walked off under his own power. He was subsequently taken to the hospital for precautionary reasons.

With Hendriks cruising, the Rock Cats batted around again in the 4th inning scoring 6 more Runs. The big blows in that frame were Bigley's lead-off Home Run and Daniel Rohlfing's 2-RBI Double. On the day, Rohlfing has 3 Hits and 3 RBI, while teammates Chris Parmelee and Mark Dolenc each collected 3 Hits of their own.

LHP Tyler Robertson came out of the New Britain bullpen and tossed 3 innings of 2-Run relief to pick up his 7th Save of the year. The struggling Gardner (2.2 innings, 7 Hits, 8 Runs) required three relievers to finish the game for him.

With today's 16 Hits, the Rock Cats enhanced their status as one of the best hitting teams in the Eastern League.
