'Wolves Come From Behind to Win Third Straight

The SeaWolves were limited to just one-hit through eight innings on Friday night at MerchantsAuto.Com Stadium but that didn't stop the ‘Wolves as they scored three in the ninth for a 4-2 comeback win over the New Hampshire Fisher Cats.

The SeaWolves struck first for the third straight game in the top of the third inning. With two outs and the bases empty, Deik Scram stepped in against New Hampshire starter Marty McLeary and connected on a solo home run, his ninth, for a 1-0 Erie lead.

New Hampshire would tie the game against Erie starter Jon Kibler in the bottom of the fourth. Todd Donovan led off the inning with a single and he moved to third on a Scott Campbell double giving the Cats second and third with no outs. Kibler retired Brad Emaus on a pop-out to second but on a fielder's choice off the bat of Brian Dopirak, Donovan slid around the tag of catcher Alex Avila, tying the game at 1-1. Kibler would get out of the inning on a double play.

The Fisher Cats would take the lead in the bottom of the sixth. Campbell led off and doubled for the second time in as many at bats. With one out, Dopirak doubled, scoring Campbell, giving the ‘Cats a 2-1 advantage.

The score would hold until the top of the ninth. Casper Wells led off the inning and drew a walk against reliever Leon Boyd. Boyd then struck out Ryan Strieby for the first out of the inning. Avila followed with the second walk of the inning, putting Wells into scoring position. Avila would be replaced by a pinch runner, Brennan Boesch, who represented the go-ahead run. Mike Hollimon stepped in and swatted a single to right, scoring Wells, tying the game at 2-2. On the throw to the plate, Boesch moved to third and Hollimon went to second. Cale Iorg would be intentionally walked to load the bases, setting up a potential inning-ending double play. Danny Worth however, had other thoughts as he blooped a single into center, scoring Boesch, giving Erie a 3-2 lead. With the bases still loaded, Andy Dirks singled to right, under the glove of a diving Nick Gorneault, scoring Hollimon for a 4-2 Erie lead.

Cody Satterwhite came into the game in the bottom of the ninth and retired the side in order, picking up his eighth save of the season.

Jay Sborz (1-1) picked up the win tossing 1.1 perfect innings in relief of the starter Kibler.

Kibler, who took the no-decision, went 6.2 innings, allowing two runs on six hits with two walks and four strikeouts.

The win gives Erie a three-game road winning streak, the club's first since sweeping Altoona May 1-3. It was also Erie's sixth come-from-behind win when trailing after the sixth inning and the first since June 2.

Erie is now 10-games over .500 for the first time since May 15 when the team was 22-12.

Erie goes for four-straight wins on Saturday night, 7:05 first pitch against the Fisher Cats.
