Rosa Placed on Disabled List

(Binghamton, NY)- The Trenton Thunder, Double-A Affiliate of the New York Yankees, have announced that LHP Wilkin De La Rosa has been placed on the Disabled List retroactive to June 17th.

De La Rosa was 3-4 with a 4.30 ERA in eight starts for the Thunder. He was promoted from Tampa (High-A) to Trenton on May 8th. He was 1-0 with a 1.29 ERA in three starts for Tampa. In 2008, the 6-foot left-hander made 32 combined appearances (11 starts) between Tampa and Charleston going 9-4 with a 2.11 ERA. The El Seibo, Dominican Republic native was converted from an outfielder to a pitcher prior to the 2007 season, and has a career .224 batting average. In his first season as a pitcher in 2007, the southpaw went 1-0 with a 2.63 ERA in 12 appearances with the Gulf Coast League Yankees. De La Rosa, who is a member of the 40-man roster, was signed by the Yankees as a non-drafted free agent on November 15, 2001.

Trenton starts a road trip on Friday night with the first game of a four-game series in Binghamton. RHP Josh Schmidt (4-1, 1.36) will start for Trenton against Binghamton LHP Eric Niesen (0-1, 9.00) Game time for Friday night is set for 7:05 p.m. Trenton returns to Waterfront Park on Friday June 26th to start four-game series against the Reading Phillies (Double-A affiliate of the Philadelphia Phillies).
