Chicago Wolves News Release
GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. --- The Chicago Wolves earned a Midwest Division win and moved to 11-2-0-0 in morning games as they scored three unanswered goals to top the Grand Rapids Griffins 3-1 in a Wednesday matinee at Van Andel Arena.
Forwards Terry Broadhurst, Philip McRae, and Ty Rattie tallied for the Wolves (6-2-2-0), while goaltender Jordan Binnington earned his second win in a row while holding the Griffins scoreless in the final 52 minutes, 16 seconds of action.
Grand Rapids (3-4-1-0) opened scoring 7:44 into the game on their first power-play opportunity. Forward Andy Miele scored his fourth of the season, and third against the Wolves in 2014-15, when he fired a wrist shot past Binnington to put the Griffins up 1-0.
Broadhurst evened the score late in the period for Chicago, taking advantage of a whiffed shot from the blue line by Xavier Ouellet to take off on a 2-on-1 the other way. Using Shane Harper as a decoy, Broadhurst moved in on goaltender Tom McCollum and beat him glove-side at 15:56.
The Wolves took their first lead of the game in the second period with a goal from McRae at 15:31. Skating 4-on-4, the forward found his own rebound in the crease and finished it into a gaping net to go up 2-1.
The visitors sealed the win at 18:36 of the final frame when Rattie iced the victory with an empty-net goal. The play was engineered by defenseman Brent Regner on the backend, who set the winger up for the outlet.
Binnington (2-1-1) turned away 26 of 27 shots while Griffins netminder Tom McCollum (2-2-1) posted 20 saves.
The Wolves travel to Iowa for a weekend series with the Wild on 7 p.m. Saturday and 3 p.m. Sunday. Chicago returns from its nine-game road trip on Nov. 22 to host Iowa at 7 p.m. For more information, call 1-800-THE-WOLVES or visit ChicagoWolves.com.
