Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins News Release

WILKES-BARRE, Pa. - The Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins announced today that forward Carter Rowney has been recalled from loan to the Wheeling Nailers (ECHL).

Rowney is currently tied for the lead on the Nailers with seven points (1G-6A) in five games this season. The 25-year old second-year pro split last year between Wilkes-Barre/Scranton and Wheeling, chipping in two goals and two assists in 24 games for the Penguins. Despite appearing in just 39 contests for the Nailers during the 2013-14 season, Rowney was tied for third on the team with 44 points (13G-31A).

A native of Sexsmith, Alberta, Rowney made his professional debut with the Abbotsford Heat (AHL) on Apr. 13, 2013, following four seasons at the University of North Dakota.

In separate transactions, the Pittsburgh Penguins (NHL) have assigned forward Matia Marcantuoni to Wheeling from Wilkes-Barre/Scranton and released forward Zack Torquato from his professional tryout agreement (PTO).

Marcantuoni, 20, is in the midst of his rookie year after four seasons with the Kitchener Rangers of the Ontario Hockey League. A fourth-round selection (92nd overall) of the Pittsburgh Penguins in the 2012 NHL Draft, Marcantuoni has registered one assist in eight games for Wilkes-Barre/Scranton. He totaled 98 points (42G-56A) in 184 games for the Rangers from 2010-14.

Now in his fifth season of professional hockey, Torquato signed a PTO with Wilkes-Barre/Scranton on Oct. 15 and went on to net one goal in eight games. Last season with the Penguins, the 25-year old native of Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario recorded two goals, five assists and 22 penalty minutes in 18 games. He also skated in 44 games for the Nailers, ranking second on the squad with 52 points (14G-38A) and 38 assists.

The Penguins are on home ice this Friday, Nov. 7, when they host the Hershey Bears at 7:05pm. Individual tickets for all Penguins home games are available at the Mohegan Sun Arena Box Office, online at TicketMaster.com, or by calling 800-745-3000.

Penguins season tickets, including full season, 22-game, 12-game and 10-ticket flex vouchers, are available directly through the Penguins ticket offices at 570-208-7367.
