Albany Devils Fall in Morning Game
November 5, 2014 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Albany Devils News Release
ALBANY, NY - For the first time this season, the Albany Devils no longer own the top record in the Eastern Conference. The Hartford Wolf Pack used a pair of third period, power-play goals en route to a 3-1 win against the Devils during Wednesday's 11 am outing at XL Center. At 7-2-1-0, the Wolf Pack jump the 6-2-1-1 Devils in the standings.
Hartford capitalized on back-to-back man advantages near the midway point of the third. Ryan Haggerty converted on a wrist shot in the slot at 7:03 and Oscar Lindberg scored from near the goal line into an open net at 8:42.
Albany had an uncharacteristic third period. Entering the game, the Devil had a plus-10 goal differential and had only been outscored in the third period once all season. Hartford's Cedrick Desjardins thwarted Albany's chances in the final frame, including 12 shots and two power play.
The Wolf Pack netminder finished with 30 saves as the Devils outshot the Wolf Pack, 31-19. At the other end and in his season debut, Scott Clemmensen turned aside 16 shots. New Jersey loaned Clemmensen to Albany Tuesday.
The Devils found the back of the net early when Dan Kelly sprung Paul Thompson for a breakaway. Despite being hooked, Thompson snuck a shot through the legs of Desjardins 45 seconds into the contest.
Albany's lead lasted about two minutes because Joey Crabb capitalized on a turnover in the Devils end and beat Clemmensen with a wrist shot at 2:50.
Game Notes
