November 5, 2014 - American Hockey League (AHL)
St. John's IceCaps News Release

The St. John's IceCaps were unable to snap their four-game winless streak, losing 5-3 to the Springfield Falcons Wednesday night at MassMutual Center in Springfield, MA.

Lukas Sedlak scored the eventual game-winner late in the second period and added an assist, while Austen Madaisky also notched a goal and an assist.

Rookie Chase Balisy had a goal and a helper and Will O'Neill recorded two assists in the loss. Connor Hellebuyck made 33 saves on 38 shots.

The Falcons soared out of the gates and opened the scoring just 1:20 into the first period. Dana Tyrell's shot from the left wing was kicked out by Hellebuyck but Kirby Rychel was there to shovel in the rebound on the backhand.

On a power play several minutes later, Thomas Larkin fired a shot from the point that got through a screen and past the left leg of Hellebuyck, making it 2-0 Springfield.

Balisy scored his team-leading fourth goal of the season late in the first to cut the lead in half. The rookie forward swept a loose puck past Falcons netmidner Oscar Dansk, with assists to Austen Brassard and Nicolas Blanchard.

Just 2:29 into the second, the Falcons converted on another power play to restore their two-goal lead. Ryan Craig jumped on a rebound in front and went to the backhand to beat Hellebuyck.

The power play scoring continued as the IceCaps narrowed the gap to one on a man advantage. Ben Chiarot faked a shot before firing a wrister towards the middle that was redirected by Eric O'Dell past Dansk, making it 3-2.

The IceCaps kept coming and tied the game at 12:42 on a nice goal from Kichton. The sophomore blueliner made a nifty move past a defender just inside the Falcons blueline before firing a shot upstairs over the glove of Dansk.

Late in the second, the Falcons retook the lead when Sedlak got in behind the defence after taking a long pass from Josh Anderson and beat Hellebuyck along the ice with a backhand move.

Springfield went up 5-3 with 8:47 gone in the third on a goal by Madaisky. The rearguard put one on net from the right point that eluded Hellebuyck to put the Falcons up by a pair.
