Kerby Rychel picked up the rebound and potted his third of the season to open scoring at the 1:20 mark. Thomas Larkin extended the lead five minutes later. He sent off a low shot from the high slot that found its way past the IceCaps netminder for the first power-play goal of the contest. Jerry D'Amigo and Corey Cowick each earned credit for the helpers.

The IceCaps got on the board with 3:11 remaining in the period. After a turnover to the right of the Falcons crease, Chase Balisy backhanded the puck past Dansk to cut the Falcons lead by one. Austen Brassard and Nicolas Blanchard each picked up point for assisting on the play.

Both teams added two goals to their tally during the middle frame, bringing the Falcons into the second intermission, leading 4-3. Hellebuyck stopped Austin Madaisky's shot, but left the rebound out for Ryan Craig, who shoveled in a power-play tally at the 2:29 mark. Sean Collins earned credit for the secondary assist.

St. John's scored two straight goals to even the score, 3-3. Eric O'Dell, with the help of Ben Chiarot and Will O'Neill, notched a power-play goal at the 5:18 mark. At the halfway mark of the period, the IceCaps caught the Falcons. Brenden Kichton received a pass from O'Neill and skated past a Falcons player to send off a shot that beat Dansk glove high. Balisy earned his second point of the night on the tying goal.

Lukas Sedlak put the Falcons back on top with 2:47 remaining in the second. Josh Anderson passed ahead to Sedlak, who netted the game-winning goal and his first of the season.

Springfield lit the lamp once more in the third period to down St. John's, 5-3. Tyrell passed back to Sedlak in the right wing circle. He sent a feed to Austin Madaisky, who buried a one-timer from the blue line at the 8:47 mark.
