Wolf Pack Take Rematch in Shootout

HERSHEY, Pa. -Jakub Vrana forced extra time by tying the game with 12.1 seconds left inregulation, but Marek Hrivik's goal in the third round of the shootout sent theHartford Wolf Pack to a 3-2 victory over the Hershey Bears on Sunday evening atGIANT Center.

The Wolf Pack would strikefirst a bit earlier in this game, when Nick Tarnasky scored the first of histwo goals on the night at 9:08 of the first period. Brady Skjei came a long way off of the Hartford bench tocollect a pass from Chad Nehring, then fed a pass to an uncovered Tarnasky fora slam dunk behind Justin Peters.

The Bears earned the equalizerat 11:52 on a strong play by rookie Madison Bowey. The blueliner darted down the left wing through neutral iceand let a snap shot fly from the top of the left circle. The puck sailed through a screen andbeat Hartford goaltender Jeff Malcolm short side.

After a scoreless secondperiod, Hartford grabbed the lead back at 12:44 of the third. Tarnasky would deposit the rebound of apoint shot from Ryan Graves as he was stationed right at the top of Peters'crease.

With time winding down and withPeters on the bench in favor of a sixth attacker, Riley Barber would make astrong play to get the puck through a Wolf Pack fence along the blue line andinto play. Chris Bourque hurriedto collect the puck and fed a perfect pass for Vrana to one-time past Malcolmfor his second goal of the season.

After an overtime largelycontrolled by Hershey, the shootout would be needed to award the extrapoint. Bourque answered a goal byBrian Gibbons, but Hrivik finished things off in the last half of the third roundto send the Wolf Pack to victory.

Peters dropped to 1-1-1 with 25saves on the night, while Malcolm won his first game of the year in his firststart, making 24 stops. Hersheyfinished the game 0-for-2 on the power play and 3-for-3 on the penalty kill,the Bears' third straight game with no power play goals allowed.

The Bears hit the road to takeon the Syracuse Crunch on Friday, October 30. Faceoff from the War Memorial is at 7:00 PM.
