Red Hot Power Play Lifts Albany Devils to 4-1 Victory

ALBANY, NY - After falling behind late in the first period, the Albany Devils rode strong special teams to the finish, scoring four power-play goals and killing five of six penalties on the day to defeat the Binghamton Senators, 4-1, Sunday afternoon at Times Union Center.
Playing in his 400th professional game, goaltender Yann Danis was strong in net, stopping 23 of 24 shots to earn his third win of the season.
Nine different Devils contributed with points as Albany won its second straight home game to finish the first three-in-three stretch of the season. Matt Lorito and Reid Boucher each produced two points with a goal and an assist, while Marc-Andre Gragnani added two assists.
Late in the first, Pierre-Luc Letourneau-Leblond was sent to the box for high sticking. On the ensuing power play, Binghamton broke through. After Nick Paul hit the post, Matt Puempel was able to bury the rebound past Danis to give the Senators a 1-0 lead at the first intermission.
In the second, Paul Thompson was boarded from behind, giving the Devils a five-minute major power play. On the man advantage, the Devils quickly found the back of the net as Lorito's wrist shot beat Binghamton goalie Matt O'Connor to tie the game at 6:33.
Later, Albany got another power play chance after Colin Greening was whistled for tripping. Again, the Devils converted. After O'Connor stretched out to rob Boucher, Corey Tropp pounced on the rebound in the crease and scored to give Albany a 2-1 lead at 14:38.
In the third period, the Devils kept the momentum. After a delay of game penalty, the Devils capitalized. Joseph Blandisi received a pass from Lorito and then found the top corner behind O'Connor to double the Devils lead at 6:44.
Tensions flared halfway through the third when Eric O'Dell and Brandon Burlon dropped the gloves. Both were issued five minute fighting penalties, while O'Dell was also given a two-minute instigating minor and a 10-minute misconduct. The Devils made Binghamton pay for the mistake.
On the ensuing man advantage, the day's scoring was capped by Boucher's one time blast. The goal was his second in as many days.
The victory gives the Devils momentum heading into next weekend's three home games, beginning with a matchup against the Bridgeport Sound Tigers Friday at 7 pm.
