Everett Silvertips News Release
EVERETT, Wash. - A 26-save shut out and four unanswered goals, three of those coming in the third, sealed the deal as the Everett Silvertips defeated the Calgary Hitmen, 4-0, before 3,507 fans at A.O.T.W. Arena on Tuesday night in WHL action.
Everett forwards Riley Sutter, Dawson Butt, Martin Fasko-Rudas and Bryce Kindopp recorded goals for the Silvertips along with an offense that pounded 33 shots on net, compared to Calgary's 26. 20-year-old forward Sean Richards also tallied two assists and the Tips won or force OT for the 11th time in 13 games to extend their lead in the U.S. Division to seven points and five points for top spot in the Western Conference.
"That's a big two points for our group and I'm really proud of our effort," head coach Dennis Williams said. "I thought we played a pretty sound and solid hockey game."
UP NEXT: The Western Conference-leading Silvertips return to play at home on Saturday, Nov. 24, at 7:05 p.m. versus the Kelowna Rockets (1380 AM / 95.3 FM / Tips App / WHL Live). Tickets are available at www.everettsilvertips.com/tickets.
The Silvertips struck first with an early first period goal at 7:16. Richards muscled the puck up the far boards and sauced a centering pass for an easy tap in goal for Capitals prospect Riley Sutter, his 10th goal on the season. Dawson Butt also recorded an assist on the play, his fifth of the season.
Everett landed 14 shots on Calgary goaltender Jack McNaughton, while Silvertips goaltender Dustin Wolf stopped 10 shots in the opening period. The second period totaled in 21 shots on net, 11-10 in favor of the Hitmen, with no goals. Wolf turned in his biggest save on a left circle attempt by Jake Kryski.
The Tips came out hot in the third, scoring three more unanswered goals. At 22 seconds into the third, Butt was credited with a goal from a centering pass from Richards, fed by Sutter, who carried the puck into the zone up the boards.
At 3:36 into the third, Silvertips forward Martin Fasko-Rudas extended the Everett lead to 3-0 at 3:36, where he accepted a centering pass from winger Bryce Kindopp and blue liner Jake Christiansen.
A tripping penalty called on Silvertips forward Reece Vitelli at 6:41 set up a shorthanded and unassisted Kindopp goal at 8:02. Kindopp picked up the puck up near the left circle, made a quick move to the net and blasted a wrister past McNaughton's glove.
McNaughton, Wolf's counterpart, finished the game with 28 saves.
