
WNBA Players To Visit Milwaukee On May 1, In Advance Of Chicago Sky Exhibition Game

CHICAGO - The WNBA is heading to Milwaukee on Saturday, May 3, 2008 at 7 p.m. when the Chicago Sky and Indiana Fever will play an exhibition game at the Al McGuire Center. The Sky played an exhibition game in Milwaukee last season, on May 4, 2007 against the Washington Mystics. The Sky's top draft pick, 6'6" LSU star Sylvia Fowles, and the WNBA's 2007 Rookie of the Year Armintie Price will be in Milwaukee on Thursday, May 1 at 10 a.m., to speak to the girls basketball team and student body from Hopkins Street Elementary School.
Fowles, the National Defensive Player of the Year and 2008 SEC Player of the Year (over Candice Parker), was selected by the Sky with the second pick in the 2008 WNBA Draft. Fowles has been training with the USA Basketball Women's National Team in hopes of making the 2008 Olympic squad. She just returned from an Olympic warm-up tournament in Beijing, where she led the team in scoring with 17.6 points and 11.0 rebounds per game. Fowles was the first female high school player to dunk in a game, as a 6'3" ninth grader at Edison High School in Miami.
Milwaukee native Armintie Price was named the 2007 WNBA Rookie of the Year after averaging 7.9 points and 6 rebounds per game for the Sky in 2007. Price was born in Milwaukee before moving to Mississippi, and much of her family still resides in the area.

The exhibition game is being organized by Milwaukee-based Images of Us (IOU) Sports, a non-profit organization that provides sports education, fitness opportunities, career information and charitable assistance to girls and women who participate in all levels of sports. The Chicago Sky begins pre-season play on Wednesday, April 30 at the UIC Pavilion and opens the regular season at Seattle on May 17 against the Seattle Storm. The team's home opener is on May 22 against the Sacramento Monarchs at UIC Pavilion. The Sky is one of seven independently-owned teams in the WNBA, the world's longest-running women's professional sports league. The Sky celebrated its inaugural season in 2006, and finished a successful sophomore season with a 14-20 record.
