Dakota Wizards News Release

BISMARCK, N.D.: In almost a repeat performance of the previous night, the Dakota Wizards fell 118-113 to the Iowa Energy to drop to 0-2 on the season. Their loss also marks only the first time since the 1998-1999 season that the Wizards lost their first two home games of the season.

After a back and forth battle that featured Wizard forward Carlos Powell scoring 17 of his 23 points in the first half, the Wizards pulled ahead to take a 50-45 lead at intermission. But the Energy lived up to their name and came out quickly with a 12-2 run at the start of the third quarter to turn the game around. The Energy held the Wizards to 5-for-17 shooting from the floor and outscored Dakota 33-19 in the period.

"The third quarter killed us," said Wizards Head Coach Duane Ticknor. "They were more aggressive, we missed some shots and didn't take care of the basketball. They were more aggressive and capitalized on our mistakes."

The Wizards were not to be counted out and were able to cut the Energy lead to only 2 on a three-point play by center Kevin Lyde with 1:05 left to go in the game, but the Energy nailed their free throws down the stretch and kept the Wizards at bay the rest of the game.

Energy forward Dwayne Mitchell showed why he was a first round D-League selection filling up the stat sheet tonight with 34 points, 7 rebounds, 5 assists and 5 steals. Guard JamesOn Curry, on assignment to Iowa from the Chicago Bulls scored 24 points for the second straight night and had a game-high 8 assists.

Lyde continued his strong performance in the middle with his second straight double-double as he added a game-high 12 rebounds to go along with his 23 points. Wizards guard Maurice Baker joined Lyde and Powell with 23 points on the night.

The Dakota Wizards travel to Orem, Utah to take on the expansion Utah Flash in their first ever D-League game this Tuesday at 8:00 pm CT. Iowa returns home for their home opener return Monday night against the Albuquerque Thunderbirds at 7:00 CT.
