Memphis Redbirds News Release

NEW ORLEANS, Louisiana - Patrick Wisdom extended his career-long hitting streak to 16 games, but the Memphis Redbirds (34-21) saw their five-game winning streak come to an end with a 10-3 loss at the New Orleans Baby Cakes (Marlins) Thursday night in New Orleans, La.

A 4-3 deficit turned into a 10-3 hole in the blink of an eye, as New Orleans hit three two-run home runs in the seventh inning. Memphis gave up a total of five runs on its five-game winning streak. Despite the loss, Memphis has still won 11 of its last 14 games.

Wisdom extended his hitting streak to 16 games with an RBI single in the first inning, and he finished 2-for-4 with a run scored. He is hitting .424 (25-59) during his streak, and his batting average has risen from .256 to .311. Rangel Ravelo, Alex Mejia, and Andrew Knizner also had two-hit games for the Redbirds.

Wisdom's 16-game streak is tied for the sixth-longest in Redbirds history.

Dakota Hudson allowed four runs in 5.2 innings, and Memphis saw its streak of 11-straight quality starts come to an end. Prior to tonight, Hudson had given up just two earned runs in his previous four starts. Hector Mendoza came on and finished the sixth inning, but he was touched for the trio of home runs in the seventh to put the game out of reach.

Preston Guilmet tossed a scoreless eighth inning for the Redbirds, lowering his season earned run average to 1.00.

Oscar Mercado stole his 13th base of the season in the contest.

The Redbirds are in New Orleans for three more games before returning home for seven contests against Tacoma and Reno starting Tuesday. For more information on single-game tickets and ticket mini-memberships, visit www.memphisredbirds.com.
