Fresno Grizzlies News Release
The Fresno Grizzlies (32-22) out-slugged the Albuquerque Isotopes (28-26) 12-11 in 11 innings Wednesday night from Isotopes Park. Both teams combined for eight home runs (four on both sides) and 28 hits (17 for Fresno). All starters recorded a hit for the Grizzlies, with four picking up multi-hits. The victory improved Fresno to 2-2 in extra innings (1-1 on the road) and 7-8 in one-run affairs (first road win).
Fresno lunged out to a 3-0 lead in the top of the first thanks to two home runs. Kyle Tucker (2-for-5) smashed a solo shot to right-center, his sixth of the season. Then, Jack Mayfield launched a two-run blast to right-center, his fifth of the year.
Josh Fuentes' (2-for-5) RBI groundout in the bottom of the first cut the deficit to 3-1.
In the top of the second, Tucker powered his second homer of the game, a two-run bomb to right-center, making it 5-1. Tucker became the first recipient to have a multi-homer game for the Grizzlies in 2018. The last time he completed the feat was in 2017 for Buies Creek (High-A), when he did it in back-to-back games against Myrtle Beach (May 6-7).
The Isotopes chipped into the deficit, plating a pair in the bottom of the third. A ground-rule double by Garrett Hampson (2-for-4) and a sacrifice fly by Mike Tauchman brought the score to 5-3.
A three-run top of the fifth gave Fresno an 8-3 advantage. Jon Kemmer (4-for-6) helped the cause with a two-run rocket to right field. It was his eighth homer of the year. Then, a single by Eduardo de Oleo (3-for-6) knocked in Nick Tanielu after recording his first Triple-A triple.
Albuquerque scraped across their fourth run in the home half of the sixth after Elliot Soto's RBI single. After a quick stretch in the seventh, the Isotopes knotted the game at eight after a pair of round trippers.Raimel Tapia (2-for-6) jolted his eighth dinger of the season and Tom Murphy jacked his 14th tater.
The Grizzlies took an 11-8 lead in the top of the 10th after RBI singles by Alejandro Garcia and Tyler White (3-for-6). Then, a wild pitch allowed Garcia to waltz home.
Fresno's advantage didn't last, as Albuquerque tied the game at 11 in the bottom of the 10th. Longballs by Jan Vazquez (two-run) and Fuentes (solo) facilitated the rally.
Garcia provided the Grizzlies a 12-11 lead after a sacrifice fly in the top of the 11th.
The go-ahead flyout was enough as Fresno won 12-11, finishing the game with a double-play. Jacob Dorris (2-0) earned the win and Austin House (1-2) suffered the decision.
Both teams continue the series with game two of five Thursday night from Isotopes Park. First pitch is scheduled for 5:35 PT with pre-game starting at 5:15 PT on KKDJ 99.7 Fresno. Albuquerque RHP Antonio Senzatela (2-1, 2.25) and Fresno RHP Cy Sneed (5-2, 3.68) are the probable starters.
