Wisconsin Records 13-0 Shutout to Beat Beloit

GRAND CHUTE, WI - The Wisconsin Timber Rattlers started their final series of the season with a 13-0 win over the Beloit Sky Carp Tuesday night at Neuroscience Group Field at Fox Cities Stadium. Wisconsin hitters combined to bang out fifteen hits and match their largest margin of victory this season.

Jeferson Quero put the Timber Rattlers (66-60 overall, 30-31 second half) up in the first inning with a two-out, two-run home run. It was Quero's third home run since joining Wisconsin.

Darrien Miller added to the Wisconsin lead with a two-out, RBI double in the bottom of the second.

Miller started a rally with two outs in the bottom of the fourth inning when he was hit by a pitch. Miller has been hit by 23 pitches this season. Mike Brosseau, who is with the Timber Rattlers on a rehabilitation assignment, blooped a single to left to continue the inning.

That brought Jackson Chourio to the plate, and he lined a double to the corner in left to score both runners for a 5-0 lead.

Beloit (62-64, 31-30) had one hit in four innings against Wisconsin starting pitcher Brady Schanuel. The only inning in which the Sky Carp threatened to score against Schanuel was the third. Schanuel walked the first two batters of the inning before getting a 5-4-3 double play. A third walk of the inning put runners on the corners before Schanuel got the final out of the inning on a force out at second.

Wisconsin's offense kept scoring. Jose Acosta hit a three-run home run to the Beloit bullpen with one out in the fifth. Eduardo García knocked in the run to make it 9-0 with an RBI grounder in the sixth.

In the eighth, the Timber Rattlers took advantage of two walks and two errors to score four more runs. Joe Gray Jr drove in the first run with a double. García singled to drive in a run. Then, Ernesto Martínez had a run-scoring fielder's choice. Miller drew a walk with the bases-loaded to push the final run across the plate.

Zach Mort took over for Schanuel in the fourth inning. Mort pitched five scoreless innings, allowed three hits, walked none, and struck out five. He tossed a 1-2-3 ninth inning to close out Wisconsin's seventh shutout of the season to pick up his seventh win of the season.

Quero and Gray led the Wisconsin offense with three hits each.

The thirteen-run margin of victory matched Wisconsin's 17-4 win at Quad Cities back on May 10 of this season.

The win guaranteed the Timber Rattlers their first winning season since 2016. The Timber Rattlers are 66-60 with five games left in the 2022 season.

Game two of the series is Wednesday afternoon. Israel Puello (1-4, 5.57) is the scheduled starting pitcher for Wisconsin. The Sky Carp have named Edgar Sanchez (0-1, 4.43) as their starter. Game time is 12:10pm.

Wednesday afternoon means there is time for one more Bark in the Park game presented by Tito's Handmade Vodka and Fleet Farm. The left field berm will be set aside for dogs and their families to enjoy the game. Admission for dogs is free as long owners sign a waiver that their good doggos are current on their vaccinations (Rabies, DHLP, Parvo, and Bordetella).
