Wisconsin Herd News Release
OSHKOSH, Wis. - The Wisconsin Herd, NBA G League affiliate of the Milwaukee Bucks, will wear a specialty Waterways Jersey presented by Winnebago County Solid Waste to celebrate National Green Week on Go Green Night February 1, 2024, with tip-off set for 6:00 p.m. CST. The game-worn jerseys will be auctioned off to benefit the Winnebago Waterways program of the Fox-Wolf Watershed Alliance.
"We are very grateful for partners such as the Winnebago County Solid Waste who help bring together wonderful theme nights like our Go Green Night," said Wisconsin Herd Team President Steve Brandes. "Winnebago County's land is covered with 25% water, so we wanted to bring awareness to raise funds toward protecting and restoring our beautiful waterways."
The Jerseys represent a topographic map of the lakes in Winnebago County. Featured on the front of the jersey are Lake Poygan and the Wolf River. Lake Poygan was once known as one of the best places in the country for duck hunting. Also featured is Boom Bay cut-off to the Wolf River, which played a crucial role in directing logs to sawmills in Oshkosh. This area is currently home to a large shore land restoration project and a breakwater that was constructed to protect its shoreline.
The back of the jersey showcases parts of Lake Winneconne, Wolf River, Lake Butte des Morts and Fox River. The number, name and waistband of the jerseys showcase a map of Winneconne which was originally left off the 1967 Wisconsin highway map. The village "seceded" from the state of Wisconsin and annually celebrates "The Sovereign State of Winneconne."
"We are excited to partner with the Wisconsin Herd to raise awareness for our beautiful waterways in Winnebago County," said Winnebago County Executive Jon Doemel. "These jerseys not only showcase the natural beauty of our community but also highlight its rich history and importance in our daily lives."
Winnebago County recently invested over $3 million to a land and water conservation program. The program offers up to 90% cost share on conservation practice projects. More information is available at https://www.co.winnebago.wi.us/.
These game-worn jerseys will be auctioned online at https://herdgreen.givesmart.com and in-arena on Feb. 1. The auction is open now until Feb. 8 at noon. Proceeds benefit the Winnebago Waterways Fox-Wolf Watershed Alliance which facilitates regional coordination and implementation of restoration and protection efforts for the Winnebago Lakes and surrounding watersheds.
