Raptors 905 (4-8), the NBA G League affiliate of the Toronto Raptors dropped the first of two matches against the Grand Rapids Gold (7-4) 115-109 Wednesday afternoon. Javon Freeman-Liberty paced the 905 with a game-high 37 points, four rebounds, five assists, and a block. Denver Nuggets' two-way player Collin Gillespie led the Gold with a 36-point, 11-rebound, 12-assist performance.
‰ ‰ ‰ ‰ ‰ ‰It was a tale of two quarters in the first half as the 905 opened the ball game on a 15-4 run before the Gold responded with 10 straight points. A series of turnovers and missed shots allowed the 905 to close out the quarter on a 13-2 run, taking a 1-point advantage into the second. The Gold quickly found their rhythm in the second quarter as they went on to outscore the 905 31-18, taking their first lead of the game.
‰ ‰ ‰ ‰ ‰ ‰The 905 and Gold traded baskets throughout the third quarter, however, the 905 could edge out Grand Rapids and tie the ball game at 78 points apiece. Freeman-Liberty scored 18 of his 37 points in the third quarter. The two teams went back-and-forth in the final frame, but 12 fourth-quarter points from both Gillespie and Braxton Key led the Gold to victory.
‰ ‰ ‰ ‰ ‰ ‰Raptors 905 received complementary scoring from Mouhamadou Gueye who added 17 points, 14 rebounds, two assists, and two blocks in the match. Nuggets' two-way player Braxton Key contributed 30 points, 15 rebounds, four assists, two steals, and three blocks in the victory.
