Iowa Wolves News Release
DES MOINES, Iowa - After postponing Wednesday's game due to extreme severe weather in the Des Moines metro, the Iowa Wolves and the Wisconsin Herd closed their series Thursday night with a rescheduled game at Wells Fargo Arena. Wisconsin (9-3) broke open a close game in the second quarter on its way to a 131-117 win over Iowa (6-6).
The Herd clinched the top spot in the central division for the Showcase Cup and will be one of eight teams playing for the Showcase Cup Championship as part of the NBA G League's Winter Showcase Dec. 19-22 in Las Vegas. The Wolves will play two games at the showcase event in Las Vegas.
Isaiah Miller scored a career-high 30 points and added seven rebounds, six assists and three steals off the bench for Iowa. Brian Bowen II had a season-high 26 points while Vincent Edwards added 24 points. Bowen pulled down 13 rebounds for his third double-double of the season. Matt Lewis was the other scorer in double digits with 11 points.
Former Iowa Wolves player and Iowa State standout Lindell Wigginton paced Wisconsin with a season-high 30 points, fueled by seven three-pointers.
Wenyen Gabriel recorded a double-double with 23 points and 17 rebounds.
Canyon Barry beat the clock with a bank shot off a well-executed inbounds play just before the end of first quarter to pull Iowa to within two at 24-22. In the second, Wisconsin stretched its lead to 16 points helped by Wigginton's blistering shooting making 6-of-9 shots, including four three-pointers, to score 16 points in the quarter, after going scoreless in the first. Iowa cut the deficit in half going into the break as Bowen II made a late three.
Edwards buried a three out of halftime to pull within five points, but it was as close as the Wolves would be the rest of the game. Wisconsin countered with six-straight points and later would lead by as many as 26 in the game.
Fans can follow the action in Las Vegas on ESPN's family of networks, NBA TV and NBAGLeague.com from Dec. 19-22.
