Salt Lake City Stars News Release
PARADISE, NEV. - The Salt Lake City Stars failed to close out the G League Ignite on Wednesday night at Michelob ULTRA Arena. The Ignite used a 10-2 run in the final 2:38 of regulation to force overtime where they came out on top of the Stars 114-111.
The Stars appeared to be in control for most of the night as they shot 56.1 percent from the field in the first half, including 12-21 from beyond the three-point line. Salt Lake City led by as many as 18 points in the second quarter, but the Ignite were able to hang around and cut the Stars lead to 60-52 at the half.
Nino Johnson converted an and-one free-throw to give the Stars a 101-91 lead with under six minutes to play in the game before the Stars went cold from the field.
Dyson Daniels and Jaden Hardy combined for 11 of the Ignites final 18 points down the stretch as Daniels nailed two clutch free-throws to send the game into overtime.
Late in overtime, Michael Foster Jr. drove the lane for a lay-up that Johnson rejected, sending the ball into the waiting hands of Daniels who knocked down the wide-open triple to give the Ignite the victory.
Derrick Alston Jr. led the way for the Stars with 20 points on 8-11 shooting from the field and 4-5 from deep. Elijah Hughes added 15 points along with six rebounds and five assists.
The Ignite were paced by MarJon Beauchamp who scored 25 points to go with seven rebounds. Hardy added 23 points and five assists and Daniels was one assist shy of a triple-double with 11 points, 11 rebounds and nine assists.
The Stars will enjoy a few days off before heading back to Las Vegas for the NBA G League Winter Showcase, Dec. 19-22.
The Ignite will head to Santa Cruz to battle the Warriors on Friday night.
