Portland Winterhawks News Release
Fresh off of a pair of wins in Prince George and with a playoff spot sealed up, the Winterhawks took down both top-seeded Everett and U.S. Division rival Tri-City in a back-to-back set this week. Portland now sits just three points behind the Silvertips for the top spot in the division and remains in the hunt for home-ice advantage throughout the first three rounds of the WHL playoffs.
Hot Hawks:
Forward Cross Hanas led all Winterhawks skaters with five points last week, notching a goal and a helper in Friday's win over Everett and three assists on Saturday against Tri-City.
Forward Robbie Fromm-Delorme grabbed two goals and an assist over the weekend, including the game-winning tally against the Silvertips and a third-period strike against the Americans.
Forward James Stefan continued his torrid pace with another two-goal outing on Friday and a helper on Saturday. He currently boasts a five-game point streak with five goals and eight points for 13 points in that span.
Defenseman Ryder Thompson posted three points across last week's pair of games, including his second multi-point performance of the season on Saturday. Thompson now boasts points in back-to-back games for the second time this year.
Defenseman Ryan McCleary also posted netted three points across last week's pair of games, and recorded multiple points for the second time in his last five outings on Saturday.
Play of the Week:
It's Robbie Fromm-Delorme's honor this week as the 19-year-old nets the game-winner in Everett! With the game tied, Fromm-Delorme collects a pass from Cross Hanas, chips it over the defender's stick and finishes with a spinning backhand past Koen MacInnes.
Weekly Rewind:
Portland 4 at Everett 2 (Friday):
Taylor Gauthier stopped 47 shots and James Stefan tallied three points as the Winterhawks roared back from a 2-0 deficit to take a 4-2 win on the road over the Everett Silvertips on Friday night.
Portland 8 vs Tri-City 3 (Saturday):
Tyson Kozak and Gabe Klassen each scored twice and Cross Hanas notched three assists as another rampant offensive showing carried the Winterhawks past the Americans 8-3 at the VMC on Saturday.
The Week Ahead:
It's a busy week on the ice for the Hawks this week with four games in five nights!
First up, Portland hops on the bus and heads north of the border for a pair of midweek games against the Victoria Royals on Tuesday and Wednesday. After that, it's off to Seattle for what should be another exciting date with the Thunderbirds. After falling to the T-Birds for just the first time in their last five meetings on Feb. 19, Portland will look to return the favor in Kent on Friday night. Catch the game on Portland's CW or WHL Live at 7:05 P.M.
