
Winterhawks Sign Kirill Vorobev

The Portland Winterhawks have signed defenseman Kirill Vorobev, the team's second pick, 57th overall, in the 2012 Canadian Hockey League Import Draft.
Vorobev is a Russian native who played two games with the Sioux City Musketeers of the United States Hockey League last season before joining the New Mexico Mustangs of the North American Hockey League.
"Kirill plays very well in his own end, and we feel he has the potential to also become a solid offensive contributor. He has shown a great work ethic and level of compete in training camp," said Winterhawks General Manager & Head Coach Mike Johnston.
Vorobev, 17, joined the Winterhawks Sunday and was on the ice for the final session of the intrasquad Neely Cup tournament and has been practicing with the team daily this week.
