
Winterhawks Fall 5-3 in Game 1 in Everett

The Portland Winterhawks fell 5-3 to the Everett Silvertips Friday in Game 1 of their second round playoff series.
The Silvertips opened a 2-0 lead in the first 8:29 of the game on goals from Kohl Bauml and Remi Laurencelle, which remained the score going into the second.
Laurencelle got his second of the night 4:42 into the second to make it 3-0. The Hawks got on the board with 22 seconds left in the period when Miles Koules blasted a one-timer past Everett netminder Carter Hart to cut the deficit to 3-1. However, with just over two seconds left in the period, the Silvertips' Jake Mykitiuk scored to give Everett a 4-1 lead after 40 minutes.
Patrick Bajkov scored a power play goal 7:58 into the third to give Everett a 5-1 lead. Portland got one back at 11:05 when Dominic Turgeon collected a rebound in front of the Silvertips' net and slid it past Hart, cutting the lead to 5-2.
The Hawks kept pressing and at 16:22 they made it a two-goal game when Alex Schoenborn banked the puck off Hart into the net to make it 5-3. Portland kept up the pressure throughout the final minutes, but the Silvertips held on and came away with the 5-3 win.
Keegan Iverson had two assists for Portland in the loss.
Game 2 will be tomorrow in Everett at 7 p.m.
