Portland Winterhawks News Release
Portland, Ore. - The Portland Winterhawks, proud member of the Western Hockey League, announced today that the team has assigned four signed 2005-born prospects to their respective player clubs for the upcoming 2021-22 season.
Rhett Ravndahl, 16, will return to the Prince Albert Mintos U18 AAA club for a second season this fall. Signed in June by Portland, the defenseman from Birch Hills, Saskatchewan participated in the Neely Cup with the team and scored his first WHL preseason goal last week.
Defenseman Carter Sotheran will return to Manitoba to play for the Pembina Valley Hawks U18 AAA after also skating with the Hawks in the team's preseason contests. The right-handed blueliner is expected to play his first full season since the 2019-20 campaign, when he registered 44 points in 36 games with the Pembina Valley Hawks U15 AAA club.
Aiden Sotas will head to Manitoba to play for the Portage Terriers of the Manitoba Junior Hockey League (MJHL). Hailing from Birtle, Manitoba, the lengthy 6-foot-3, 16-year-old center showcased a 200-foot game at the Neely Cup and continued his impressive display in the team's wins over their U.S. division foes this month.
Lastly, forward Josh Zakreski heads to the Saskatoon Blazers for a second year with the U18 AAA program. Zakreski scored four goals at the 2021 Neely Cup and he netted his first goal as a member of the Winterhawks in the September 12th preseason tilt against Everett. Zakreski will turn 16 on December 17.
All four skaters will be available to play in Portland as affiliate players as needed.
