WINSTON-SALEM, NC (JULY 8, 2010) - Logan Johnson's sixth-inning RBI double snapped a 3-3 tie and sent Winston-Salem to a 4-3 victory over Myrtle Beach on Thursday night at BB&T Ballpark. The win snapped the Dash's five-game losing streak against the Pelicans, who had not lost to Winston since mid-May.

Myrtle (6-9, 32-53) scored in the first inning against Dash starter Terry Doyle. After Doyle retired the first two batters of the game, Luis Sumoza hit a solo home run to left field, making it 1-0 Pelicans.

Winston-Salem (9-5, 52-32) took its first lead in the bottom of the second. Zeke Spruill gave up singles to the first three batters, including an RBI base hit by Jose Martinez to tie the game. With men on the corners, Logan Johnson hit a grounder to shortstop. Samuel Sime flipped to second base for the out, but Travis Jones lost the ball on the transfer. Ozzie Lewis scored from third base and Johnson was credited with an RBI to give the Dash a 2-1 lead.

The seesaw affair continued in the fifth, when Osman Marval hit a two-run home run to right field off Doyle, pushing Myrtle on top 3-2.

After 1.2 scoreless innings from Yeliar Castro, Angelo Paulino came in to pitch the sixth. He retired the first batter, but gave up a triple off the centerfield wall to Seth Loman. He scored one batter later on Lewis' sacrifice fly to tie the game at three.

With the bases clear and two outs, Paulino (2-3) gave up a single to Martinez, his third hit of the ballgame. Johnson then scorched a liner to right field. Martinez scored from first and Johnson got to second, snapping another tie with his second run batted in on the night.

While the Dash and Pelicans vied for the lead, Doyle (5-3) was once again pitching very well for Winston. After a 28-pitch first inning, he settled down for several quick frames.

Doyle exited after seven innings, and 2010 White Sox first rounder Chris Sale entered the game in the eighth. After striking out L.V. Ware to start his outing, he retired Cole Miles on one pitch. Miles attempted a drag bunt, but hit the ball too hard to Drew Garcia, who shovel-passed the ball to first base an instant before Miles' foot hit the bag. Sale finished his perfect inning by striking out Cory Harrilchak looking with a 94 mph fastball over the outside corner.

Kyle Bellamy pitched a 1-2-3 ninth inning, capped by a great barehanded play by shortstop Eduardo Escobar on a grounder by Travis Jones. Bellamy picked up his fifth save in six chances. He preserved the win for Doyle, who allowed three runs on five hits over seven innings, striking out six and walking none. He has won all three of his starts in the second half.

Paulino took the loss and the blown save, allowing two runs on eight hits in three innings.

Johnson went 2 for 4 with two RBI to help pace the offense, which was boosted by Loman and Martinez. Each player went 3 for 4 and they scored three of Winston's four runs.

The Dash entered the night having lost five straight games to the Pelicans, the team with the worst overall record in the Carolina League. Winston-Salem's last win against Myrtle Beach came in the 20-inning game on May 19-20 at BB&T Ballpark.

The two teams play the rubber game of the set on Friday night at 7 p.m. RHP Dylan Axelrod (3-1, 2.17) goes for the Dash against LHP Matt Crim (4-8, 4.87). The audio broadcast begins at 6:45 on www.wsdash.com.
