Frederick Keys News Release

On a hot afternoon in Frederick, Maryland, the Keys mustered just one hit through the first eight innings in the 7-4 loss to the Potomac Nationals. Frederick's bats came alive in the ninth inning as they scored four runs on six hits but it was too little, too late. The Keys dropped their second straight to the P-Nats and have lost four of their last five contests.

For a second consecutive day, Potomac jumped on Frederick early. The Nationals scored two runs in the first and three in the third against Keys starter, RHP Ryan O'Shea.

Washington Nationals rehabber, RHP Jordan Zimmermann, started for the P-Nats. Zimmermann allowed just one hit and no runs over three innings while striking out five.

RHP Adrian Alaniz came in for Zimmermann after his three innings of work and he was even more dominant. Alaniz did not allow a run or a hit over five innings of work. Alaniz walked one and struck out a season-high eight batters in the P-Nats victory.

RHP Raul Rivero relieved Frederick starter Ryan O'Shea and pitched well in three innings of work. Rivero allowed a run on three hits and struck out two on the afternoon.

Trailing by seven runs entering the bottom of the ninth, the Keys put together a rally. With one out, RF Ronnie Welty hit a single to leftfield to extend his hitting streak to 13 games. Following a flyout by Joe Mahoney, Frederick strung together five straight singles that brought home four runs. Jacob Julius, LJ Hoes, Buck Britton, Bobby Stevens and Phillip Britton all singled to bring CF Xavier Avery to the plate with two on and two out. Before Avery stepped into the batters box, Dan Leatherman replaced Patrick McCoy for Potomac. Leatherman struck out Avery to end the game.

Ryan O'Shea picked up the loss on the afternoon, his first defeat since May 30. Adrian Alaniz got the win for Potomac and Dan Leatherman notched his sixth save of the year.

Frederick will try to avoid the sweep at the hands of the Nationals Friday night as RHP Ryan Berry (2-0, 2.08) will get the start for the Keys. Potomac will send RHP Marcos Frias (2-4, 6.75) to the hill. First pitch is set for 7:00 p.m. on New York, New York night at Harry Grove Stadium. In addition the New York style menu in the Mattress Warehouse Club, the first 1,000 fans in attendance on Friday night will receive a cooler bag courtesy of Allegheny Power.
