THE HILLCATS: Last night Wilmington edged Lynchburg 3-2 in the series opener of a three-game set at City Stadium...After winning five out of six and three in a row, the Hillcats have lost their last six contests to match their longest losing streak of the season...Tonight is the middle game of the three-game series with Wilmington and the fifth contest of a six-game homestand...

VS. WILMINGTON: The Hillcats are 4-8 against the Blue Rocks this season and 2-3 in the Hill City...The Cats went 5-15 against the Rocks during the regular season last year, 3-7 at City Stadium and 2-8 at Frawley Stadium...Wilmington was the only team in the Carolina League with a winning record versus the Hillcats last season...In the post-season though, the Cats topped the Rocks three-games-to-two in a best of five series to win the Northern Division Championship and advance to the Mills Cup...Wilmington has the all-time advantage over Lynchburg 187-125...

JULY FOR THE BIRDS: Lynchburg dropped to 0-6 in the month of July with their 3-2 loss last night...The Hillcats ended June by winning five of their last six games, but have lost every game this month so far...The six-game skid matches the Cats longest losing streak of the season...

RELIEF IN SIGHT: The Hillcats are in the midst of 12 games in a row against Wilmington and Winston-Salem...Thus far they are 1-6 during this stretch against the two teams that currently have the top two records in the Carolina League in the second half of the season...The Cats are a combined 4-17 against these two squads this season...

EARLY EXIT: In the top of the seventh inning on Monday night Lynchburg and Winston-Salem engaged in a bases clearing incident...Home plate umpire Joey Amaral issued warnings after RHP Nick Christiani threw a pitch that missed inside to OF Ozzie Lewis...The next pitch from Christiani hit Lewis, who then moved towards the mound before C Jordan Wideman intercepted Lewis and the two wrestled to the ground...The dugouts and the bullpens cleared on to the field and collided on the infield...Christiani, Lewis, Hillcats Manager Pat Kelly, and Winston-Salem's 1B Seth Loman and SS Eduardo Escobar were all ejected from the ballgame...

ADVANCED SCOUTING: Last Friday at Wilmington RHP Lance Janke and RHP Bryan Paukovits went head-to-head at Frawley Stadium and the Blue Rocks came out on top 10-8...Last night the result was the same, but the two teams only combined for five run and there were now runs plated in the first six innings...

AGAINST THE ODDS: LHP Donnie Joseph gave up a solo home run in the top of the ninth inning last night and was saddled with his second loss with Lynchburg...The southpaw had not allowed a run in his last 11 and 1/3 innings and ten games...The long ball he allowed was the first home run he had given up in his professional career which began last season after the Reds selected him in the third round of the 2009 draft out of the University of Houston...

SWITCH FLIPPED: RHP Lance Janke worked seven innings last night and gave up just two hits and one unearned run...The seven innings of action was a season-long and matched his career-best...This start came after an outing in which he matched a career-high with 11 hits allowed and set a new career-high with nine earned run allowed against the same Wilmington team...

WHAT'S YOUR PRICE FOR FLIGHT: Last night OF Kyle Day went 2-for-3 with a double, an RBI and a run...He has hit in nine of his last 11 games and over that time he is 14-for-34 (.412) with three doubles, a triple, a grand slam, nine RBI, seven runs scored, five walks and three steals...In those 11 contests Day has raised his average from .226 to .258...

TONIGHT'S OPPOSING PITCHER: LHP Buddy Baumann was selected by the Royals in the seventh round of the 2009 draft out of Missouri State University...His final season with the Bears he went 11-1 with a 3.23 ERA in 13 starts (two complete games)...He made his professional debut last season and had a 1.80 ERA in three games in relief with Rookie Burlington...This season he began with Advanced-A Wilmington and has posted a 2-1 mark with four saves and a 2.17 ERA in 20 games (three starts)...His first 17 appearances of the season were in relief...He has pitched against Lynchburg twice out of the bullpen and has a 8.10 ERA (three earned runs in three and 1/3 innings) with a save...
