Lynchburg Hillcats News Release
Wilmington racked up 11 runs halfway through the game and it was enough to hold off the Hillcats, 11-3 the final. Lynchburg has dropped seven straight, and gave up a season-high 21 hits to an opponent.
Offense was in no short supply tonight. After it took both teams more than six innings to score the first run in the series opener, Wilmington wasted no time in getting on the board. Jarrod Dyson led off the game with an infield single, then scored on a two-out single by Wil Myers.
The Hillcats got on the board in the first as well. Cody Puckett singled with one out and scored on Carlos Mendez's double. Mendez scored on Neftali Soto's single. Both runs came in with two outs. Soto had three hits on the ballgame
But then the Rocks took over. Wilmington sent 10 batters to the plate, seven of them got hits. Rey Navarro led off the frame with a single and scored on Adam Frost's double. Frost scored on Adrian Ortiz's single. Two batters later, Eric Hosmer and then Myers hit bases-loaded singles to drive in a run apiece. Salvador Perez added a sac fly to the mix. The Rocks led 6-1 after two.
Wilmington added one more in the third on a solo home run by Frost.
Lynchburg scored again in the fourth. Brodie Greene hit a one-out double, then scored on the double by Efrain Contreras.
The Blue Rocks blew the game open in the fifth. Reliever Daniel Guerrero took over for Partch in the third. Frost led off the inning with his second home run of the game. He went 3-for-5 with two home runs, a double, three RBI and three runs scored. The next three hitters reached and scored. Two came home on Myers' fourth hit of the game. Myers had four singles and three RBI.
Curtis Partch struggled for the third straight start. In two and one-third innings, he gave up seven runs, all earned, 11 hits and struck out two. Jeff Jeffords threw a scoreless outing in relief.
Lynchburg and Wilmington conclude their three-game set tomorrow night at 6:05. Jordan Hotchkiss (5-2, 2.47) starts for the Hillcats opposite John Lamb (4-2, 1.55). Fireworks presented by Dominos follows the ballgame.
