RHP Terry Doyle (1-5, 3.54) vs. RHP Trevor Holder (2-6, 7.16)

Pugnacious Punctuation: Last night the Dash provided another example of their resiliency, erasing a 3-0 eighth-inning deficit to win in a walk-off by a final score of 4-3. Jared Mitchell provided the deciding hit, a two-run double off the glove of diving centerfielder J.R. Higley to win the game for Winston-Salem. Only two players managed to pick up hits over the first eight innings for the Dash, and the team trailed by two runs heading into the ninth. Jason Bour started the rally with a one-out single and pinch runner Kyle Colligan scored on Austin Yount's RBI double down the left field line to cut the gap to one. After a groundout and a walk, Mitchell came through with another big hit for Winston, sending the Dash to their third win in four games and the Nationals to their tenth straight loss.

"You're telling me you built a time machine ‚¬Â¦ out of a DeLorean'": Last night felt like a trip back in time to 2010, when walk-off wins were nearly as prevalent as Ian Gac home runs. The Dash walked off winners 11 times last year, winning in that fashion in 16% of all the team's home games. Last night's walk-off was the third of this season and the first that did not end with a home run. Jared Mitchell is responsible for two of the three walk-offs, as he hit the first walk-off home run of his baseball career at any level on April 24 against the Wilmington Blue Rocks. Last night's walk-off was the first in a regulation nine-inning game this season. The others had been part of doubleheader games.

Easy to Reed: Addison Reed had another scoreless appearance last night, making it four in a row and eight straight innings since allowing his last run. With three more strikeouts against the P-Nats, Reed upped his total with the Dash to 29 in 22.1 innings. The hard-throwing right-hander is among the CL leaders in many categories. Among relievers, Reed is fifth in opponent batting average (.190), third in K/9 IP (11.69), second in fewest BB/9 IP (1.21), and fewest baserunners/9 IP (8.46).

The Bour Supremacy: Jason Bour is riding an amazing streak over the last two games against Potomac. He had produced a base hit in all seven of his at bats in the series and had sacrifice fly in his only other plate appearance of the series. Entering the series, Bour had been 0 for his last 14 with ten strikeouts. Against Potomac this season, Bour is hitting .625 (10 for 16) with two of his four doubles and three of his four RBI. He is hitting .111 (8 for 72) against the rest of the Carolina League.

Streaky Happy Funtime: Andy Wilkins, who yesterday was named the Carolina League's "Player of the Week," saw his eight-game hitting streak end last night with an 0 for 4 night at the plate. During his streak, which tied for his second-longest hit streak of the season, Wilkins hit .413 (12 for 29) with three doubles, three home runs, eight RBI, seven runs, and four walks. While his streak is now history, Nick Ciolli was able to extend his hit streak to eight games after going 2 for 4 last night. Ciolli is batting .323 (10 for 31) with two doubles, a triple, three home runs, eight RBI, and five runs scored.

Tigers love pepper. They hate cinnamon.: Since moving to the second spot in the lineup last week, Jared Mitchell has hit his stride and is playing his best offensive baseball of the season. The former LSU Tiger has hit in five of the six games that he has batted second, posting a .450 batting average (9 for 20) with two homers, two doubles, eight RBI, and four runs scored with five walks and four strikeouts. In 40 games batting third, Mitchell hit .197-4-21 with 58 strikeouts and seven walks. His season batting average has increased 29 points since Julio Vinas moved him up in the lineup.

Playing them close to the vest: The Dash have an inordinate number of close games this season, as 40 of the team's 51 games have been decided by three runs or fewer and the team has had a lead in 39 games this season. Winston has played 20 one-run games and 13 two-run games. The Dash are 9-11 in one-run games and 6-7 in two run contests. At this rate, the Dash would play 91 one - or two-run games this season.

Moonshot Monopoly: With another home run on Saturday night, the Dash extended their league-leading homer total to 47 on the season. Winston-Salem has hit seven more longballs than its closes competition (Salem with 40) and more than double than last place Kinston (22). The Dash led the Carolina League in dingers last year with 112 and the team is on pace to blast 129 in 2011.

Today's Opposing Starter: RHP Trevor Holder (2-6, 7.16) makes his tenth start of the season and his second against the Dash. He got a no-decision against the Dash on May 10, allowing five runs (four earned) in 6.1 innings. Holder was hit hard in his last start, giving up eight runs on nine hits in 1.2 innings. He made one start and one relief appearance against Winston-Salem in the regular season last year, going 0-1 with a 2.00 ERA. Holder started game two of the Mills Cup Championship Series at BB&T Ballpark and got a no-decision, allowing two runs on eight hits in 5.1 innings. The Nationals ended up winning the game 5-3 after scoring three times in the eighth inning to even the series at a win apiece. After spending most of the first half of last season with low-A Hagerstown, Holder was promoted to Potomac in mid-June. He was 3-3 with a 4.09 ERA in 15 games (14 starts) for the Nationals. He went 4-3 with a 3.15 ERA in 12 starts for the Suns. Holder displayed outstanding command in the South Atlantic League, striking out 50 and walking just seven in 65.2 innings. Those numbers weren't quite as strong in the Carolina League (52 K, 22 BB in 70.1 IP). Holder made his Advanced-A debut in 2009 against Winston-Salem and beat the Dash, allowing one run on one hit in five innings. The first pick in the third round of the 2009 draft, Holder played at three different levels in 2009. He made two starts with short-season Vermont (0-0, 5.06 ERA) before making three starts at Hagerstown (2-0, 3.55). He started six games for the P-Nats in 2009, going 2-3 with a 9.26 ERA. Overall, he made 11 starts and went 4-3 with a 6.97 ERA. A native of Birmingham, Alabama, Holder played his college ball at the University of Georgia where he finished with 22 career wins, tied for fourth on the school's all-time list with former major league pitcher Cris Carpenter. He went 7-5 with a 4.48 ERA in his senior season as the team's top pitcher. Holder helped the Bulldogs reach the finals of the 2008 College World Series, but his team lost to underdog Fresno State. He suffered a shoulder injury prior to the 2008 draft that dropped his stock and he was selected by Florida in the tenth round but elected to return for his senior season.
