LAST TIME OUT

Bernardo Flores turned in his third quality start of the season on Sunday, but the Dash fell 3-0 to Wilmington in the series finale at Frawley Stadium. Flores traded zeroes with Blue Rocks starter Ofreidy Gomez until the third inning. With two outs and a runner on first base, Emmanuel Rivera hit a ground ball that shortstop Yeyson Yrizarri could not field cleanly, prolonging the inning and bringing up Brandon Downes with runners on first and second. Three pitches after Yrizarri's error, Downes lifted Flores' 2-0 offering over the right-center field fence to give the Blue Rocks a 3-0 lead. Meanwhile, Winston-Salem's offense managed just five hits for the second straight game. The defeat on Sunday marked the end of a 2-4 road trip for the Dash.

ASSESSMENT THROUGH 24 GAMES

Through the Dash's initial 24-game stretch to start the season, the team's offense has staked their claim as the best in the 10-team circuit. Winston sits atop the Carolina League in several offensive categories, including batting average (.279), hits (224), on-base percentage (.360), slugging percentage (.432), doubles (54) and homers (19). Meanwhile, Winston-Salem's pitching staff has been solid, as the unit has registered the third-best ERA in the circuit with a 3.42 mark. However, the Dash defense has struggled, having made a league-worst 33 errors so far this year.

LAMBERT EARNS CL POW HONORS

Thanks to a six-inning, two-hit performance against Wilmington on April 27, Winston-Salem right-hander Jimmy Lambert has earned the Carolina League's Pitcher of the Week award for the week of April 23-29, the league office announced on Monday. Lambert registered his second win of the season in the series opener, tying a career-high with nine strikeouts across six shutout innings in a 5-0 win over the Blue Rocks at Frawley Stadium. The White Sox fifth-round pick in the 2016 MLB Draft, Lambert is 2-2 with a 3.66 ERA in four starts this year with the Dash. Lambert is the second Dash player to earn a weekly honor in the Carolina League in 2018, with outfielder Micker Adolfo having taken home the first Player of the Week award of the year from April 5-15.

BASABE NAMED SOX CO-MILB POM

Dash outfielder Luis Basabe, who is rated by MLB Pipeline as the 13th-best prospect in the White Sox organization, has been named the White Sox co-Minor League Player of the Month for April, along with Winston-Salem alumnus Seby Zavala. Basabe shined through his first 21 games, posting a .313/.400/.614 batting line, leading the Carolina League in slugging percentage and ranking eighth in batting average. The 21-year-old also leads the league in total bases (51), and he is tied for the league lead in extra-base hits (14) through the first month of the season.

NICE TO SEE YOU AGAIN

Tuesday's series opener against the Hillcats marks the fourth meeting of the year between the Dash and the Hillcats. Winston-Salem dropped two of three against Lynchburg at City Stadium from April 24-26. The Dash will only square off against the Hillcats six times in 2018, which is the least amount of games for the Dash against an opponent this season.

CEASE TO START THE OPENER

Cease, who is rated the fifth-best prospect in the White Sox system per MLB Pipeline, will take the mound on Tuesday against the Hillcats. The righty faced off against Lynchburg in game one of Wednesday's doubleheader, where he allowed three unearned runs and tied a career-high with six walks in 3.2 innings pitched. However, Cease's overall numbers have been impressive. He is 2-1 with a 2.79 ERA and 24 strikeouts over four starts (19.1 IP). Cease was traded to the White Sox last July, along with Eloy Jimenez, Bryant Flete and Matt Rose, from the Cubs in exchange for big league lefty Jose Quintana.

DASH DOTS

Right-hander Michael Kopech, who is currently pitching for Triple-A Charlotte, was named the Sox Minor League Pitcher of the Month for April. The former first-round pick with the Red Sox has struck out 29 batters in 21.0 total innings.
