CALL'S WALK-OFF PROPELS DASH
Tied at five in the bottom of the ninth inning with two outs, Alex Call delivered a walk-off single to bring home Ti'Quan Forbes to give the Dash a 6-5 win over the Salem Red Sox at BB&T Ballpark on Tuesday night. With Forbes on second with two outs, Call hit a ground ball that ricocheted off Daniel Gonzalez, allowing Forbes to race around third and score the winning run with a headfirst slide. Matt Foster set the stage for the dramatic finish, striking out the side in order in the top of the ninth. Offensively, Joel Booker and Zach Remillard each smacked their fifth home run of the season in the victory.
DASH HAVE SOME QUALITY ARMS
Winston-Salem has righted the ship with five straight wins and victories in nine of its last 13 contests. One of the biggest drivers behind the Dash's latest string of success has been the starting rotation, which has logged 10 quality starts in its last 13 outings. During that stretch, Winston-Salem's starting staff has gone 7-2 with a 2.18 ERA (19ER in 78.1IP). Overall, the Dash are second in the Carolina League in ERA (3.49) and strikeouts (507).
SHOWING THE BULLPEN LOVE, TOO
Winston-Salem's bullpen has been stellar during the Dash's homestand so far, having allowed just one earned run through 15.2 innings in the last four games. The relief corps has produced some strong performances this season. Here are the top three arms:
LHP Kyle Kubat: 2-0, 1.20 ERA, 13G, 29K, 3BB; lowest BB-IBB/9IP ratio in the CL
RHP Matt Foster: 2-1, 2.63 ERA, 17G, 33K, 6BB
RHP Zach Thompson: 1-1, 2.08 ERA, 18G, 32K; four straight scoreless appearances (9IP)
PLAYOFF PICTURE
The Dash are currently in first place, up a half-game on the Buies Creek Astros, who Winston-Salem is 5-5 against this year. The Dash last clinched a first-half championship in 2012.
HOME-HEAVY END TO THE FIRST HALF
After a road-heavy schedule to start the season, which has seen the Dash play 32 of their first 54 games on the road, Winston-Salem closes out the first half with 13 of its final 16 games at BB&T Ballpark. The rest of the slate includes the team's current three-game set against Salem (6/5-6/7), a three-game series against Myrtle Beach (6/11-6/13) and a four-game set against Wilmington (6/14-6/17).
WELCOME BACK, RED SOX
The Salem Red Sox visit BB&T Ballpark for the second time this season, having split a four-game set against Winston-Salem at the downtown facility from April 19-22. The Dash traveled to Haley Toyota Field from May 7-9, winning all three games against Salem in that road set.
NEW STRENGTH FOR JIMMY
Right-hander Jimmy Lambert toes the slab for the middle match on Wednesday against Salem. Lambert's last start was ended early due to rain that halted play. Overall, the former fifth-round pick out of Fresno State University is 3-5 with a 3.55 ERA this year. Lambert added about 12 pounds of muscle in the offseason, and his extra mass has played a part in his uptick in strikeouts. So far this year, the right-hander has struck out 54 batters in 45.2 frames. However, Lambert has been hurt by a lack of run support this season, with his team averaging just 1.7 runs per contest. More information is available on page 3.
