Bats Stay Hot for Potomac in 6-1 Victory OverFrederick

Woodbridge, VA - The Potomac Nationals (29-25) picked up right where they left off in game one of the series, scoring six runs on nine hits in a 6-1 win over the Frederick Keys (23-32) on Wednesday night.

Potomac scored two runs in their first trip to the plate and never looked back, as LHP Matthew Crownover (W, 3-4) kept the Frederick offense in check all night long.

CF Blake Perkins scored the opening run of tonight's game on a double from SS Carter Kieboom, hustling all the way from first after working a one-out walk. Kieboom scored two batters later on an RBI single from 1B Ian Sagdal to give The Red, White, & Blue a 2-0 lead after one.

After Frederick picked up a run in the top of the second on an single from 2B Alexis Torres, Potomac's offense grabbed a run right back in the bottom half of the inning. After RF Rhett Wiseman reached on an error, 2B David Masters doubled and DH Adam Eaton walked to load the bases. Perkins lifted a fly ball to left field to score Wiseman form third on a sacrifice fly to push the lead back to two.

As Crownover continued to toss scoreless innings, the Potomac offense tacked on runs in the final two innings of his outing. In the fifth, Perkins doubled and scored on an error from C Stuart Levy after stealing third. Kieboom, who advanced to third on the play, scored his second run of the night on another RBI single from Sagdal.

In the sixth, LF Alec Keller singled to start off the inning and crossed home on an RBI fielder's choice from Perkins to make it a 6-1 game. Keller paced the Potomac offense with a three-hit night.

Five of the six runs came on LHP Alex Wells' (L, 3-4) watch, who lasted five innings in the loss.

Crownover tied his season-high with six innings of work, giving up just one run (unearned) on six hits while striking out three. RHPs Jorge Pantoja, Ronald Pena, and James Bourque all contributed to the win with one scoreless inning each in relief of Crownover.

Suiting up as a Potomac National for the second straight game while on rehab, Adam Eaton went 0-4 with a walk as the designated hitter in Wednesday's game.

In the first two games of the three-game series, Potomac has outscored Frederick 21-1.

With the series victory already locked up, RHP Sterling Sharp (4-2, 3.45) will take the ball for Potomac in game three against the Frederick Keys. Sharp leads the team with 60.0 inings pitched, tied for the fourth best mark in the Carolina League. RHP Michael Baumann (2-0, 1.45) will make his fourth start as a Frederick Key, his first against the Potomac Nationals.
