WINSTON-SALEM DASH (12-11, 42-50) at CAROLINA MUDCATS (14-9, 43-47)

RHP Tyler Danish (2-1, 4.29 ERA) vs. LHP Shawn Morimando (8-3, 3.10 ERA)

6 p.m. - Five County Stadium (Zebulon, N.C.) Game #93 (Road Game #46)

WINSTON DROPS SERIES OPENER The Carolina Mudcats cruised to a 9-2 victory over the Dash in the opener of a four-game series at Five County Stadium on Friday. Erik Gonzalez gave the Mudcats the lead for good with a third-inning grand slam. This proved to be plenty of offense for Carolina starter Adam Plutko, who limited Winston-Salem to one run on five hits over seven innings. He whiffed nine Dash hitters, who mustered only two runs on a double play and a groundout. On the other hand, Carolina scored five runs in the final three frames to add to the grand slam.

HAWKINS SHINES IN RETURN Winston-Salem outfielder Courtney Hawkins went 2-for-4 with a pair of doubles Friday, his first game since suffering a concussion on July 2 at Myrtle Beach. Hawkins, who was activated a few hours before Friday's contest, made a dazzling catch near the left field foul pole before crashing into the wall. It was named MiLB.com's Play of the Week, as voted by fans. Within the Carolina League, the Corpus Christi, Texas, native is tied for third in home runs (13) and tied for second in RBIs (59).

BACK AND FORTH WEEK After Sunday's win over Wilmington, the Dash improved to 9-9 in the second half, though they remained in the Southern Division's basement. Since then, Winston-Salem has had at least a share of every spot in the four-team division. A win on Monday pushed the Dash into a tie for second, while another triumph on Tuesday propelled the club to a share of first place for the first time since June 26. The roller coaster ride continued after the Dash's games Wednesday (L, 3rd), Thursday (W, T-2nd) and Friday (L, 3rd).

WHERE'S THE GLOVE? Winston-Salem has committed 12 errors in its last four games after rattling off 30 consecutive errorless frames from the fifth on July 4 through the end of Monday's contest. The Dash lead the CL and are second in the Minors with 141 errors.

WHITE SOX SIGN CARLOS RODON On Friday, the Chicago White Sox announced the signing of left-hander Carlos Rodon, their first-round pick (third overall) in the 2014 MLB Draft. The North Carolina State product was MLB.com's second-best prospect in this year's Draft. On June 5, Rodon became the highest White Sox draftee since the franchise selected Harold Baines with the top pick in 1977. Rodon finished his collegiate career with the Wolfpack with a 25-10 record and a 2.24 ERA.

RODON WITH THE CLUB Rodon is currently working out with the Dash, but he will not be assigned to an affiliate until after his introductory press conference Friday at U.S. Cellular Field. If he starts with Winston-Salem, he would be the first Sox draftee to begin his professional career with the Dash since three-time MLB All-Star Chris Sale in 2010.

TOUGH ACT TO FOLLOW Dash starter Tyler Danish turned in one of his best efforts with Winston-Salem in his last outing on Monday against Myrtle Beach, the team he also faced two starts ago. Danish scattered three hits over six fantastic innings, during which he whiffed seven, which were one shy of a professional best. In his 15 starts between Winston-Salem and Low-A Kannapolis, Danish is 5-1 with a 2.44 ERA, which is 30th among qualifiers in full-season Minor League Baseball. Danish is the youngest player (19 years, 10 months) in the top 40 in this category.

DASH DOTS For just the fourth time in his professional career, Jason Coats struck out three times on Friday night...The Dash are just 12-21 against a left-handed starter...In road games, Winston-Salem is 3-12 in such situations...Including Saturday, the Dash have faced a southpaw starter in nine of their last 12 games...Joey DeMichele has hit safely in all but three of his 21 games since the All-Star break...During this span, he is hitting .293 with 12 RBIs and 11 runs.
