Zebulon, N.C. - The Carolina Mudcats edged the Winston-Salem Dash 2-1 at Five County Stadium on Saturday night to run their season-long winning streak to five games. The Mudcats (15-9, 44-47) move three games above the Dash (12-12, 42-51) in the Carolina League Southern Division.

Ben Heller (1-0) grabbed his first CL victory with a scoreless two-thirds of an inning. Starter Shawn Morimando dealt his 10th quality start by holding the Dash to a run on six hits across 6 1/3 innings. He walked one and struck out five. Grant Sides pitched the final two innings, allowing two walks and striking out a pair, for his first save of 2014.

Euclides Leyer (1-3) suffered the loss in relief for Winston-Salem. He allowed a run on three hits in two innings of work.

Dash starter Tyler Danish and Morimando dominated the first five innings. Nick Basto cranked a solo home run off the lower, right end of the scoreboard beyond left field to put the Dash up 1-0 in the second.

Erik Gonzalez sparked the Mudcats with a leadoff single in the sixth. A wild pitch moved him into scoring position. LeVon Washington lashed a double up the third base side to score Gonzalez and tie the game at one.

Yhoxiand Medina extended his hitting streak to 13 on a double off the left field wall to open the seventh. After stealing third, Todd Hankins brought his second baseman home with a soft liner to left.

The Mudcats go for the series win over their interstate rival at 2 p.m. on Sunday afternoon at Five County Stadium. Kids run the bases, presented by Amerigas, following the game with the Winston-Salem Dash.
