STIEVER, BATS GUIDE DASH PAST NATS

Jonathan Stiever notched a quality start and the offense racked up nine hits, as the Dash claimed a 5-2 victory over the Potomac Nationals in front of 5,972 fans on Friday night at BB&T Ballpark. Making his 10th outing in the Dash purple, Stiever earned his eighth quality start. The former Indiana University star allowed two runs on six hits across six innings while striking out three Potomac hitters. Meanwhile, Mitch Roman and Andrew Vaughn both racked up multiple hits to lead the way for the offense.

THE FIRST-ROUNDER IS HERE

Vaughn, who was picked by the Chicago White Sox out of the University of California-Berkeley with the third overall selection in the 2019 Draft, joined the Dash's roster on July 31. In 15 games played with the Dash, the first-rounder has recorded at least one RBI in 10 games. Prior to joining the White Sox system, Vaughn had an incredible career at Cal, winning he 2018 Golden Spikes Award as the best amateur baseball player in the United States and the Pac-12 Player of the Year.

BAñUELOS TO MAKE REHAB START

Left hander Manny Bañuelos will make a rehab start for Winston-Salem on Saturday during its 6 p.m. home contest against the Potomac Nationals. Bañuelos has been on the injured list with left shoulder inflammation. In 13 outings with the White Sox this year, Bañuelos has posted a 6.90 ERA with 42 strikeouts in 45.2 innings pitched. This past offseason, the 28-year-old was traded from the Dodgers to the White Sox in exchange for minor league infielder Justin Yurchak. Bañuelos is a part of the White Sox 40-man roster. The left-hander was originally signed by the Yankees in 2008 before getting traded to the Braves in 2015. He ended up making his MLB debut with Atlanta.

WALKING ALL OVER CL PITCHING

Steele Walker has been a steady presence at the top of the lineup. Over his last 16 games played, Walker is 25-for-64 with a homer, six doubles, a triple and 13 runs.

IS THIS THE BIG LEAGUES?

With Bañuelos joining the Dash's roster, there are now three former big leaguers on the team. Caleb Frare, who pitched for the White Sox this year, was transferred from Triple-A Charlotte's injured list to Winston-Salem. Acquired from the Yankees for international signing bonus pool money last year, Frare appeared in five games with the White Sox this year. Both Frare and Bañuelos are joined by Jacob Lindgren, who appeared in seven games for the Yankees in 2015.

STILL IN THE PLAYOFF HUNT

After winning three in a row, Winston-Salem sits 3.5 games back of Fayetteville with 16 games remaining in the second-half Southern Division wild card race. This comes after finishing second in the first half with a 38-26 record. In the Dash's history (2009-present), Winston has had the best second-half record in the Southern Division five separate times. These years include 2009 (tied with Salem), 2010, 2012, 2015 and 2018 (tied with Buies Creek).

NOT A LOT OF SEPARATION

Outside of four games, the Dash have only played contests where the margin of victory or defeat was less than four runs in the second half. Here is the breakdown of the Dash's record in those 49 games:

One-run games: 6-11

Two-run games: 9-6

Three-run games: 6-4

Four-run games: 3-4

WELL-ROUNDED OFFENSIVELY

The Dash are the only team in the Carolina League that is in the top four in batting average (4th, .251), on-base percentage (2nd, .332) and slugging percentage (2nd, .382).

CHECKING IN ON AN OLD FRIEND

Luis Robert, who went 16-for-27 with two doubles, three triples, three homers and eight RBIs against Potomac this year, has been terrorizing Triple-A pitching. The 22-year-old is posting a .989 OPS in 31 games with Triple-A Charlotte.
