Woodbridge, VA - Potomac pitcher Trevor Holder started strong and Cole Kimball ended better in leading the Nationals to a 4-1 win over Winston-Salem in game two of their four-game series on Friday night at Pfitzner Stadium. Holder (1-0), a 2009 third round pick out of the University of Georgia, held the Dash to one run on one hit in five innings to earn a win in his Carolina League debut.

After Nationals reliever Patrick McCoy tossed a scoreless inning, Kimball worked the final three frames and did not allow a hit while striking out seven to garner his sixth save of the season. The three hurlers combined to limit the Dash to a season-low two hits.

Chris Marrero put Potomac in front early when he led off the second inning with a solo home run off Dash starting pitcher Anthony Carter. The Nationals added an unearned run in the third inning to take a 2-0 lead.

Winston-Salem cut their deficit in half in the top of the fourth inning when Dale Mollenhauer led off with a walk and moved to second base on a ground out. First baseman Jimmy Gallagher followed with an RBI single. Potomac answered right back in the bottom of the inning with three consecutive one-out doubles, including run-scoring hits by Francisco Plasencia and Devin Ivany to extend the Nationals advantage to 4-1.

That was more than enough offense for Potomac, who has held Winston-Salem to three runs on seven hits in claiming the first two games of this series.

Carter, who leads the league with ten wins, only last four innings and surrendered four runs (three earned) on five hits. He struck out six, but suffered his third loss against Potomac this season. The lone bright spot for the Dash was Levi Maxwell, who tossed three shutout innings out of the bullpen.

The Dash and Nationals meet up in game three of this four-game series on Saturday night at Pfitzner Stadium. Winston-Salem will send LHP Justin Edwards (2-2, 5.82) to the mound, while Potomac is expected to turn to RHP Adam Carr (1-1, 4.71). The first pitch is scheduled for 6:35 p.m.

The Dash returns to Wake Forest Baseball Park on Monday, August 3 when they open a seven-game home stand with the first of three against Wilmington. Single-game tickets can be purchased online at www.wsdash.com or by calling the Dash office at (336) 714-2287.
