Frederick Keys News Release

Frederick's bats exploded in the continuation of suspended game from Thursday night, as the Keys scored seven unanswered runs in its first two offensive innings to blow open the series opener in a 10-4 win. Unfortunately the offensive surge was fleeting as Lynchburg held the Keys at bay in the nightcap handing Frederick a 3-1 loss.

The day got off to a wild start as with the Keys leading 2-1 in the fourth inning, C Caleb Joseph and LF Tyler Henson hit back-to-back doubles to bring home two more runs giving the Keys a 4-1 lead.

Frederick blew the game open in the fifth inning with an enormous two-out rally.

Two two-run home runs, one by Joseph (9), the other by DH Wally Crancer (6), highlighted the five-run fifth inning rally putting the Keys atop 9-1. Frederick didn't look back in the 10-4 win. It was its season-high fourth consecutive win.

The streak would come to an end in the nightcap as Lynchburg starter Justin Wilson threw six scoreless innings to get the victory. The Keys left three runners in scoring position in the first two innings and it proved costly.

In the fifth inning with the game scoreless, Lynchburg RF Erik Huber singled to leadoff the inning in which the Hillcats sent eight men to the plate. Huber went 5-for-6 on the day, fittingly starting the critical rally.

All-in-all three runs would score on four hits putting Frederick in a hole they could not climb out of.

Zach Britton takes the hill for the Keys in game three of the series Saturday, August 1st at 6:05 p.m.

Frederick returns home for Kids Eat Free Monday to begin the biggest series of the year Monday, August 3rd against the first place Potomac Nationals. For tickets contact the Keys Box Office at 1-877-8-GO-KEYS or purchase on frederickkeys.com.
