Winnipeg Blue Bombers News Release
WINNIPEG, MB - The Winnipeg Blue Bombers made the 2002 Canadian College Draft seem like a family affair, as three of their four selections have ancestral connections to the football club.
With their first selection (3rd Round, 26th Overall), Winnipeg picked Michael Shaver from the Ottawa Gee-Gees. Michael is the younger brother of Blue Bombers safety Lukas Shaver.
Lloyd Orris, Winnipeg's first choice in the 5th Round (40th Overall), is a Winnipegger who played his college football at Simon Fraser University and his high-school football at Kelvin High School. His uncle Glen Orris was a wide receiver for Winnipeg in 1969 and 1970. Like Lloyd, he attended both Simon Fraser and Kelvin.
Winnipeg selected Manitoba Bisons linebacker Joey Mikawoz with their second choice in the 5th Round (44th Overall). Joey is the cousin of Winnipeg Football Club Hall of Fame member Stan Mikawos, who played for Winnipeg from 1982-1996 and was the club's territorial selection in the 1982 Canadian College Draft.
