
Roughriders Bolster Defense With Final Picks

With their fourth round selection (29th overall) Saskatchewan Roughrider head coach Danny Barrett selected cornerback Darnell Edwards from the University of Manitoba. Edwards was one of the best closers on the ball in the CIS. Edwards picked up 11 interceptions in his final two seasons. He was a 2000 first All-Canadian as well as a 2000 Canada West All-Star.
In the fifth round (38th overall) Saskatchewan picked up Eastern Illinois defensive tackle Gonzalo Segovia. In his four-year career, he played in 34 games and picked up 61 defensive tackles and six quarterback sacks. Segovia is a former College teammate of current Rider Chris Szarka.
For their final selection (47th overall) the Saskatchewan Roughriders picked Saint Mary's defensive back Curtis Nash. Nash, who is in his fourth year of eligibility, was voted an AUS defensive all-star in 2000.
