Great Lakes Loons News Release

BOWLING GREEN, KY - All good things must come to an end and on Friday night the Bowling Green Hot Rods handed the Great Lakes Loons a 5-2 loss to begin a three game series and end the Loons six game win streak.

The loss for the Loons, combined with a win for the Lansing Lugnuts on Friday night means the Loons fall a full game further back in the Midwest League Eastern Division playoff race. Great Lakes now sits one and a half games out of the wild card spot.

It took just one hour and 58 minutes between the first pitch and the final out making this game the fastest nine-inning contest that the Loons have played in this season.

Both starting pitchers, Caleb Ferguson and Jose Mujica, were extremely quick workers and both pitched well. Ferguson, coming off his second quality start of the season, tossed five innings and again did not allow a walk, but did allow two runs on seven hits. Mujica (W, 2-3) went seven innings and granted the Loons two runs on four hits, walking none and striking out five.

Logan Landon, riding one of his hottest stretches of the season now with 13 hits in his last six starts, clocked his ninth home run of the year with one out in the 2nd inning to give the Loons an early 1-0 lead.

Bowling Green waited until the 5th inning to respond, and they did so by taking the lead. Back-to-back singles off Ferguson to start the inning brought Landon Cray up, who reached on a fielder's choice to Gage Green at third. Unfavorably for the Loons no outs were recorded on the play and the bases were loaded with no outs. Eight-hole hitter David Rodriguez then singled to score Michael Russell from third base to tie the game. Then Matt Eureste grounded into a double play, and while the Loons got two outs, the Hot Rods took the lead with Manny Sanchez coming in to score.

In the 6th inning the Loons would re-tie the game on an RBI-groundout by Brendon Davis, but in similar fashion to the 5th inning, Bowling Green was able to re-take the lead on another RBI-single for Rodriguez.

Now with a 3-2 advantage, the Hots Rods added insurance in the 8th inning off Loons righty reliever Ivan Vieitez (L, 2-3) who conceded a two-run blast off the bat of Kevin Padlo which elevated the Loons deficit to three.

Already with a winning road trip, the Loons still have an opportunity to win this series against Bowling Green, but need a win in game two on Saturday to keep that hope alive. First pitch is slated for 7:35 p.m. ET. Catch pregame coverage on ESPN 100.9-FM dawning at 7:05.

The Great Lakes Loons, hosts of the 2017 Midwest League All-Star Game, have been a Single-A partner of the Los Angeles Dodgers since the team's inception in 2007 and are in their 10th season. For tickets and more information about the Loons, call 989-837-BALL or visit Loons.com.
