Kane County Cougars News Release

DAVENPORT, Iowa - Early offense did not secure a victory for the Kane County Cougars (22-31, 55-69) for the second consecutive night as the Quad Cities River Bandits (27-27, 58-65) stormed back for an 8-2 win at Modern Woodmen Park Friday evening.

Sergio Alcantara put the Cougars ahead with an RBI single in the top of the second inning, but the slim lead was short lived.

Hector Roa launched a solo home run off of Jose Almonte (2-4) over the left field wall to tie the game up 1-1 in the third inning. The home run was Almonte's first one allowed in over a month and just his first earned run allowed in his last 17 innings.

After Roa's homer, the River Bandits added more runs with RBI singles from Anthony Hermlyn and Kristian Trompiz in the fifth for a 3-1 lead.

Hector Perez (2-0) only allowed two more hits after the Cougars score in the second and earned the win going into the sixth inning with seven strikeouts. Juan Carlos Santos was not much easier for the Cougars to get to as he picked up his third save tossing the final three and one-third innings, only allowing one Cougar run in the seventh. The Cougars' offense next closest scoring chance was in the ninth with the first two runners reaching the corners, but Santos struck out the next three batters to finish the game.

Quad Cities' biggest effort came in the seventh when they plated four highlighted by a two-run double from Dexter McCall.

The Cougars and River Bandits will continue the series on Saturday evening. Emilio Vargas (3-6, 3.90) takes the mound for the Cougars. First pitch from Modern Woodmen Park is scheduled for 6:00 p.m. Coverage on AM 1280 WBIG begins at 5:45 p.m.
