Brockton Rox News Release

BROCKTON, MA- North Shore DH Jeff Brooks hit a two-out, two-run HR in the seventh inning as the Spirit scored five runs in the final three innings to beat the Brockton Rox 6-1 at Campanelli Stadium before 4,180. The loss ends a six-game winning streak for the Rox and gives the Spirit a share of first place in the final week of the first- half. The Rox did not capitalize on scoring chances in the game, leaving runners on base in each inning and 14 total in the game. LHP Rolando Viera took the loss for the Rox, allowing three runs in seven innings to end a personal three-game winning streak. LF Joe Hough homered for the second straight night for Brockton. The Rox have five games left in the first half including the rubber game with the Spirit on Sunday at 5:05 PM, and have a 22-19 first-half record.

Spirit C Alex Trezza hit a solo HR off Viera in the fourth inning, the fourth HR of the series for North Shore, giving the visitors a 1-0 advantage. Facing LHP Joey Siak in the bottom of the fifth, Hough's third HR of the year and second in as many nights tied the game. Viera worked in and out of trouble in a tie game until two outs in the seventh, when he walked RF Andrew Wishy on a full-count pitch. One batter later, Brooks hit a line drive that just cleared the right-field wall, giving the Spirit the lead. North Shore added a run in the eighth and two in the ninth inning.

No Rox player had more than one hit, but DH Guye Senjem reached base three times and so did 1B Francisco Lebron. In the rubber game of the series, RHP Brad Guy (2-1, 3.82 ERA) takes the hill to face North Shore RHP Chris Farley (4-2, 3.60 ERA) at 5:05 PM at Campanelli Stadium.
